Clarks Shoes - are these all still considered frumpy

I'm looking for some black flat-ish sandals. My chosen style is generally a bit boho and sometimes a bit rock-chick. I do like these ones from Clarks but wonder if they're still regarded as a bit naff?

I think they’re in fashion at the moment. I don’t like but have seen similar on a lot of influencers lately.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 26/04/2023 17:00

I've got a thread about chunky sandals going at the moment.

Loads of options linked.

awakeeveeynight · 26/04/2023 17:01

I like them and would wear them

Catspyjamas17 · 26/04/2023 17:07

Just get the sandals you like, I love the chunky ones personally. Birkenstocks, Saltwater sandals and mules have been popular for years and I can't stand them. Birkenstock toe posts feel like standing on cardboard with something irritating between my toes. But then I had some allegedly comfy sandals from Clarks one time and they cut my feet to ribbons.

Floisme · 26/04/2023 17:13

I've nothing against Clarks, I like their brogues. I wouldn't choose those mainly because a) I don't like black sandals (but it sounds like you do so that's irrelevant) and b) I'm not keen on that crossed strap - it's a bit fussy for my liking and it also wouldn't give enough toe coverage for my liking. I think you could also go further with the chunky / clumpiness at the moment but then again, that could date them in a couple of years so horses for courses.

I don't actively dislike them and I probably wouldn't even notice if I met you and you were wearing some - I just wouldn't say, 'Ooh where did you get your sandals?'

Stonetolose · 26/04/2023 17:15

Thanks all for your thoughts so far. @FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee (like your user name btw) I've just nipped over to your thread and am very amused by some of the comments.
Afraid I'm heading towards 60 but I think I still look fabulous and if you've still got it, age should be no barrier to wearing most things.

Yeah it’s a no for me. They instantly made me think of Sharon from Kath & Kim.

Oh no! Well I did ask for your opinions.

Chunky are in, but those Clarks ones miss the fashion mark I am afraid. They aren't offensive though.

Saffronn · 26/04/2023 18:21

I’ve just bought these (different colour) with a big discount from the Clark’s outlet site.

I don’t claim to be a massive trendsetter, but I like them a lot and they seem very wearable.

declutteringmymind · 26/04/2023 18:22

I like them. Get them.

timetorefresh · 26/04/2023 18:26

If you like them, wear them. Life's too short to give a crap about people who care what other people put on their feet.

BirdChirp · 27/04/2023 07:30

I've got a gold pair I bought last year. They are ok, I've never been entirely convinced about them, I think there are probably better options out there.

Niftythrifter · 27/04/2023 07:35

Nobody is going to be looking at the label and care where they come from. Get them if you like them.

I've seen loads of them around

RaininginDarling · 27/04/2023 08:17

They miss the mark for me too. Would work if they were platform soles rather than the 'school shoe handmedown' block heel circa 1975 as illustrated here. Maybe they are bringing back bad memories for me?

Also agree though that you should wear what the hell you want at any age, if it makes you happy 😀

greenel · 27/04/2023 08:21

I like them and would wear them. I see similar styles around me worn by younger hipsters (live in east London).

mastertomsmum · 27/04/2023 08:28

They look a bit solid and un exciting, esp in black. For me, Clarks are just comfortable enough. Dr Martens do some fun things these days. For comfort and walking to from places Earth Spirit are good. Then switch to something more fun when you get to work

Stonetolose · 27/04/2023 10:42

Thanks everyone. I'm still thinking about it (also have to balance out my budget for the month). I do have rather a lot of shoes, including sandals - most of which will rub somewhere when wearing with bare feet - hence another reason that I would trust Clarks to be more comfortable.
Last year I wore white trainers to death but OMG they were so blissful - no blistered or rubbed feet areas.

ohtowinthelottery · 27/04/2023 11:07

I'd wear them (I'm 59) but not keen on black. As someone who does quite a lot of walking I prioritise comfort over fashion now but do try and balance the two. I've just bought Clarks sandals in silver - don't really care if others like them. They're comfortable and I like them!
