Sites that ask you to put in your height and weight to determine clothes size? WTF?

ASOS for one. Is it too much to just link to a fucking size chart saying what measurements represent the random number you have allocated to them?

Any thread on here "What size are you at 11 stone etc?" produces answers from a size 8 to 16. I am never any more than a size 14 - measurements are 39", 30" 39", but usually fit in 12 tops and occasionally bottoms, as I'm BMI 28 at 5'7" if I put my weight in it will recommend size 16-18 minimum. I just want to see the measurements so I can check which one to get!

I can find the size chart from Google (say I'm 14 on top and 12 waist and hips) but when on the site I'm interested in a particular item and want to check the sizes, it asks for my height and weight. Bonkers.

It feels intrusive, so I have never tried it.
I wouldn't expect it to be very accurate either.

I was just thinking if you were having something made to measure the tailor would not be asking you to step on the scales!

I’ve done it with Boohoo - height, weight, age (because apparently that can determine where fat decides to set up shop 🤷🏻‍♀️), then it goes on to images of bodies and asks if your tummy is flatter or rounder than the image, hips are wider or narrower than the picture and asks how tightly you want the item to fit. I ordered the size it suggested, had to send everything back as it was all too big.
Won’t be trying it again.

It can’t take account of any specific anomalies such as disproportionately short legs.

I hate that on ASOS. It’s a huge pain on the arse when you also shop for DDs there and it tries to tell you what size it thinks based on your previous purchases which are size 6/8 for them and 12/14 for me. It will suggest a 10 which works for no one.

I do quite like it in terms of comparing one shops sizing to another. I use it as a rough guide more than a definitive one. I think the reasoning behind having it is to cut down on the number of returns. I struggle with the stomach question though in terms of what I class mine as so I think I always go for average but then those kind of things are subjective as your stomach is going to be curvier or flatter than some people.

I am top heavy so would almost certainly need a bigger size than they'd recommend to accommodate my boobs. Most clothes are cut for 'pears'.

I'm quite muscley and usually need to go down a size
