What do you wear to work at home?

Good evening,

Very simple question - what do you wear to work from home, to feel comfy sitting for most of the day, doing an odd chore at lunch break but looking polished on video calls and feeling put together intentionally?

I used to love a power dress before COVID to the office, heels and tote, but things have changed so much that even in our office this would feel standoffish now. For office days I have now switched to dark jeans, blazer and a simple layer underneath, kept the heels. Middle management in a male dominated industry, so nothing girly, revealing or flirty is acceptable.

Blazer at home feels like an overkill, cardigan to mumsy, so how do you dress at least the top part for Teams? I have gone through v neck jumpers stage, but bored of them now, any advice is welcome. Also was thinking that I do not want the bottom part too at odds with the top, like leggins for comfort and a silk blouse, would just feel like a half-arsed effort, another wave of imposter syndrome. Thank you!

A nice jumper and my joggers and slipper boots. All business at the top and all comfort at the bottom. I only wear the jumpers for work so I am still in business work mode despite the joggers.

For me, I'd rather take comfort over any risk of imposter syndrome. But then I've never felt the need to dress to prevent IS either. Would you not feel like you were trying too hard?

Cashmere tracksuits.

I don't know anyone who 'dresses up' for Teams calls. Office days yes, but even they are several notches more casual than they used to be.

Generally jeans and a jumper, nice jewellery, makeup and hair done. Usually Birkenstock Boston clogs. I’m a lecturer in a creative subject and do one day remote teaching - always camera on but students would be surprised if I was in something like a blazer. When the weather is warmer I’ll wear t-shirts with cardigans (I have nice ones from Arket which are not remotely “mumsy”), or midi dresses.

I wear jeans or jeggings, v neck light jumper or plain t-shirt/ top. On my non video meeting days I might wear an oversized jumper or hoodie. I'm all about comfort, my company is not overly formal.

Joggers and a jumper.

Always joggers / leggings - never jeans - and a jumper.

I tend to wear jeans with a nice too and if it's freezing oodie or cardigan and if I go on teams I put a jacket on and take the casual stuff off

Joggers, sweatshirt, slipper socks.
I love being warm and comfy on WFH days.

Honestly and I hate myself for it...I feel best in lycra. Gym leggings and a top. I don't know why, I think it is the compression. Or fitted jeans. I just can't wear floppy clothes to work from home, I don't feel like working in floppy clothes at home. I try to wear nice colours on top for the inevitable Teams calls.

SarahDippity · 24/04/2023 01:09

I’ve become a fan of blouses for wfh. I need some colour near my face if people are only seeing shoulders-up on calls. Or a cashmere sweater. I’ve a nice periwinkle blue one.

TransparentVision · 24/04/2023 06:32

Best off to be comfy. I wear a jumper, joggers and bare feet. For video calls, I wear a smart top, jeans and sandals.

LeatherSkirt82 · 24/04/2023 06:32

I spend about half of each working days in on-camera meetings so I can’t pull off working in pjs. My WFH ‘uniform’ are jeans or wide leg trousers with a blouse or cashmere sweater. Would feel too mismatched to wear leggings or joggers for me too.

On occasion I’ll wear a shirt- when I have more formal meetings (during performance reviews, clients, town halls etc).

Always joggers on bottom half. Warm socks and slipper boots in Winter, flip flops in summer. Top half - nice t shirt or top, or jumper in the Winter. Always make up, perfume and earrings too, but that's just me, and I think I'm the only one in our team who bothers!
