My favourite boots are no longer waterproof; can I re-waterproof them?

They are old, there are no visible holes and the soles are fine. They are leather and would have been expensive if I hadn't got them in a fire sale

Is it worth trying to re-waterproof them? Has anyone successfully managed? What should I use?

Or can I send/take them to a shop to be done? Is that more successful?

I used beeswax polish on my leather hiking boots to waterproof them

Ooo beeswax! I have that

Great idea thanks

Someone today said "dubbin" but I don't know what that is 😛

Mountain Warehouse and Pavers Shoe shops sell Dubbin.

You can also buy waterproofing spray in a can.

Whataretheodds · 23/04/2023 17:18

Yes you can spray them, usually need 24 hours to dry. Ventilate well.

Outdoors shops sell all sorts of products fir reproofing leather. Dubbin is traditional, but Nikwax and Grangers make some less smelly modern variations. The key is to run them into clean leather with your fingertips - the heat from your fingers helps the wax get into the leather.

So it is possible, thanks everyone

I'll give it a go
Just worked out they are 11 years old! So if it doesn't work they don't owe me a penny
