Help! No idea what to wear - summer graduation.
I’m a size 18 with a big bust. 5ft4. Prefer maxi dresses as I don’t like my legs.
thank you!

Have you anything in your wardrobe that you do feel comfortable with? A dress you wore to another occasion? I found graduations a great opportunity to get to wear stuff l bought for weddings etc and thought l would never get another wear from.

Any smart day dress

HooplaLaLa · 23/04/2023 11:07

I’ve had another trawl and found the following possibles. (Trust me, I’ve been through many returns from John Lewis in the last few weeks, so not included anything I’ve already bought and returned or not in my size.)

Any suitables here?

**Any OF those

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/04/2023 11:34

Matalan dress is lovely too.

MargotEdithAgnes · 23/04/2023 11:37

I like the Matalan one too.

I also like the first two you posted in your most recent post op (one is pale purple and the other pale blue)

HooplaLaLa · 23/04/2023 11:55

Thank you! I shall order a few of those now and see what they look like on.

Frustratingly, wrap dresses don’t work for me, despite the big boobs. Faux wrap dresses do, though.

Same with me,they don't work at all!

MargotEdithAgnes · 23/04/2023 12:06

Yes 'true' wrap dresses can be a bit of a pain if they won't stay fastened. I wear a pretty slip underneath usually, but it is irritating when they start to slide about.

HooplaLaLa · 23/04/2023 12:52

Exactly that @MargotEdithAgnes ! They slide!

I am hitting Westfield next Saturday to look for mine. I have seen one in new look if all else fails as spending £400 on my son's suit etc has wiped my budget somewhat!

burnoutbabe · 23/04/2023 14:44

Wear trousers if you are more comfortable

I am wearing smart black trousers for my graduation soon. Far more suitable than the frankly tarty dresses a lot of women wear across the stage.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/04/2023 15:08

My DS graduated 2 years ago from Bristol in quite a formal setting
I wore a floral cotton swing dress and flat Mary Janes( disabled?
I certainly didn't feel out of place
It was very hot though
Dress as you would for a meal at a nice restaurant I'd say

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/04/2023 15:11

Any of those dresses would be fine OP Enjoy your proud moment

HooplaLaLa · 23/04/2023 16:49

With thanks to those who have suggested trousers, but I do not wear them. I think I mentioned upthread that I find anything with a waistband uncomfortable to wear. I only ever wear dresses.

Thank you so much @uncomfortablydumb53 ! We are so proud of him - he’s just completing a 4-year degree impacted by lots of Covid interruptions. He has a masters place lined up for Sept and wants to stay in academia.

Neither DH or I went to uni ourselves and we are just bursting with pride!
