Doc Martens

I recently ordered a pair of Doc Martens, never had them before but always wanted some. I know they were genuine as I ordered direct from Doc Martens website, pink leather.
When they arrived, loved them, but although the right size & length they were uncomfortably narrow. I don’t need wide fit shoes in other brands. Are they all like this? Was really disappointed at having to return them.

Not in my experience. I own three pairs of DMs and none of them feel narrow. Have you enquired if they’re a narrow fit style?

My DMs are amazing!!!
Soft... perfect width... lovely.

I've only ever owned one pair. They were too painful to wear. I gave them away to a friend's daughter.

I can't remember now exactly what the problem was other than they hurt my feet. I've got very standard, average feet, but I never got to grips with them. I've no problem with any other brand of lace up ankle boots.

Look at Solovair, who originally produced Doc Martens but sold the company and the buyer moved production to Asia. Solovair are still produced in the UK and much better quality and better looking. DMs don't work for me - and the issue is definitely width, although I wouldn't say I have unusually sized feet; I normally find that most shoes and boots fit me fine for width. But Solovair do.

The ones I have were made in Vietnam and are shit - have shredded back if my heels and so restrictive across top of foot.

They do seem very narriw - I've caved in and out them on ebay.

The Made in England ones seem OK but the quality has definitely gone downhill, which is annoying as I used to live in them.

Dippydinosaurus · 21/04/2023 21:30

Mine were a bit tight and dug in around the top. But after a few days of pain they're now the most comfy shoes I have. Well worth the wearing in phase

Rebecca011311 · 21/04/2023 21:33

I have wide feet and mine were tight over the top when I got them. I persevered with them and after wearing them a few times with thick socks, they are the comfiest shoes I own and can walk miles and miles in them.

Darklane · 21/04/2023 21:39

Thank you so much. Going to check the links to Solovair. I’d never heard of those

I dont own a pair of shoes and have only ever worn boots. DM's are too narrow for my extremely wide feet with high insteps. I buy work boots which you can get in wide fittings and buy brightly coloured laces for them. DM is a brand, yes they look great unless your feet are so wide that they distort them and are also extremely expensive. Obviously they only come in black (or brown) and not colours or glitter which are not my thing anyway.

neilyoungismyhero · 21/04/2023 21:43

I've got half a dozen pairs and they all feel very different. Some are much more comfy to wear than others. I bought a red pair a couple of months ago and whilst they're lovely they look and feel much bigger than my others. I've put them on Ebay and hot my eye on a dove grey pair once I sell them.

KirstenBlest · 21/04/2023 21:54

@Darklane , if you are ordering, read the sizing information first. You can probably go down a half or full size. The monkey boots are worth a look too.

msisfine · 21/04/2023 22:09

Mine had a pair of removable insoles in that made them really tight. Once it took those out they were perfect.

Ineedwinenow · 21/04/2023 23:04

I have two pairs, the pull on ones with fur inside and the soft leather, the normal hard leather boots caused me pain as soon as I tried them on so I knew I’d never be able to walk in them! The soft leather ones and pull on ones are fabulous though and even though they aren’t the hard leather ones I had in the 80s and 90s so maybe try a different style but go into store if you can

EllaPaella · 22/04/2023 11:27

Pascals are narrow and not good for high instep. I can't even get my foot in them. Fine in all the other styles.

RobertaTheRotund · 22/04/2023 11:31

I've not had this. I have standard feet; not especially narrow or wide. My DMs are pretty roomy.

KirstenBlest · 22/04/2023 11:49

They vary, and it depends on whether you get the ladies' ones or the unisex ones.
