How to wear pointy shoes

Hello! Does anyone have narrow feet and/or long toes (in relation to rest of the foot)? How do you wear pointy shoes or can you not? Any brands or styles you recommend?

I love the look of pointy shoes, flat or heeled, but struggle for sizing. Because my toes are long, they get really crammed into the front space and with narrow feet they always slide way down. Is it a case that people who manage this look have their toes stopping at the broadest part of the front, and pointy end is just empty and free?

This isn't just with pointy shoes, anything with a narrow front has the same problem. It's at a point where all my shoes look frumpy and I don't like it. But narrow front shoes hurt my toes!

Help!

I think it's the shape of your foot. I'm amazed at the number of people who insist that pointy flats are needed in ever shoe chat.

I can't wear them because they crush my toes. The base of my toes is fairly straight, moreso on one foot. On the other hand DH toes form a wedge. I suspect it's people with wedge shaped feet are the ones that think pointy ties are brilliant

If they don't fit, nothing you can do, unless buying new set of feet. Some can be really tight! And I bet most women suffer wearing them, but do this for the sake of their looks (same with those thin-striped heeled sandals- gosh, they are horrible to my feet, I end up having 100 blisters). Maybe you can try something in wide fit, but I think it applies more to heel than toes?

You literally have to train your foot. Start with less pointy. I've been wearing them for years, I love them and my toes actually have changed shape and my foot is now more that shape - probably not a good thing!

Pointy shoes will give you bunions if your bones are pushed too close together at your toes.

Find some with an ankle strap to hold your foot back, where it’s meant to be.

Isn’t that how you get bunions?

I think bunions can happen regardless. I always wore well fitting and wide shoes and yet, here I am with crippling bunions on both feet.

I think it's mostly genetic.

Yeah agree you can be unlucky and get them even if you’ve always worn sensible shoes. But wearing tight/pointy shoes is a cause of them (just not the only cause). See here for example.

My mum wears mid heeled shoes with round toes all her life and I can see she's getting bunions. I think it's because your toes need to carry all the weight, which is unnatural.

JaceLancs · 21/04/2023 16:09

Sadly I think it’s down to the shape of your foot
I love my pointed toe shoes flats or heels and find other styles just feel too big
I have fairly small (4) narrow feet and like Italian, Spanish and Brazilian brands
Today I’m wearing Carrano and they are so comfy

I don’t have bunions either and I’m 59

I have fat little feet so pointies look good on me

lindyloo57 · 21/04/2023 16:41

I have long toes, I can't wear pointed shoes, I did when I was younger, but not now unfortunately, as I love the look, another style I could never wear because of long toes is a peep toe, my toes would hang over the edge, not a good look, or if I went up a size wouldn't reach the end and look too big for me.

FinallyHere · 21/04/2023 17:16

You can train your feet to fit into shoes. But why would you want to?

Look at the Chinese foot binding tradition. It's not really any different to wearing shoes which require your foot to be trained, is it?

If you are not sure what I mean, turn any shoe over and compare the shape snd size of the dole to your foot. Toby try to wear any shoe which does not comfortably accommodate the full shape snd size of your foot, with plenty of space to wiggle your toes.

Just don't bind your own feet.

This is me! Can't wear peep toes either. Hmmm seems you either have a foot shape that suits it or you train your feet. Was hoping there was a magic trick.

I don't have bunions, and I don't think anyone would be able to tell looking at my feet but they definitely are a different shape after about 10 years of wearing pointy shoes. I think the toes are more squished together or something. I feel it was worth it for being able to wear such beautiful shoes 🙈

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2023 00:12

Well, this thread has been a revelation! I always wondered why I can't wear pointy toed shoes because they are so uncomfortable and now I know - narrow feet and long toes which have never been trained to wear that shape. I'm also glad to know it's not just me.

thedevilinablackdress · 22/04/2023 08:46

Those look like a nice soft leather @JaceLancs
Maybe that's the key?
