Pulling yourself out of the "feeling disgusting" rut

Hi!

Shamelessly posting here for traffic tbh.

Not sure if it's a little bit of birthday blues feeling like this but does anyone else get stuck into that rut of feeling really unhappy in one way or another or in a rut.

For example I got a truely awful haircut not that long ago and have bangs/fringe that isn't playing ball atm, my skin is a mess and struggling to find any form of routine with it (dry and generally uneven skin tone), I've put on around 10 lbs just eating shit and I feel it!

Usually weight doesn't bother me but every time I glance in the mirror I look Haggered, chunky and my skin is a mess.

Any advice on what I can do to pull myself out of this?!

Well, health and well-being intersect with ‘beauty’ (or at least looking one’s best) so I’m not sure about your ‘posting for traffic’ opener.

The best thing you can do for your weight, skin and general equilibrium is to make your diet as good as it possibly can be.

Cut out processed food.

Ditto takeaways / junk food deliveries.

Aim for a vaguely ‘Mediterranean’ diet - plenty of fruit and vegetables and good oils. Sufficient protein. Nuts, seeds, herbs and spices. Fill your cupboards with oats, beans, lentils, quinoa, and, if you can, make time to enjoy cooking / preparing meals.

Don’t buy crap - ready made biscuits, cakes, snacks, sweet fizzy drinks.

Take a holiday from alcohol.

Honestly, if you pursue this aggressively for three months you will see a difference in how you look and feel and fit into your clothes.

As for your hair - you need to find a new hairdresser.

Yes I do get that stuck in a rut feeling sometimes.

I also have dry skin. I like Cera Ve products - nice and basic face wash and moisturiser. Once a day.

Weight - I’ve started doing intermittent fasting. Basically I only eat between 11am - 7pm. (I just have water and black coffee before 11am). It’s the only sustainable thing I’ve found - I can envisage doing it forever. (Except occasional meals out etc).

I don’t try to eat “less” but I do try to actively eat more fruit and veg, which means that I naturally eat less other stuff.

Also I’d recommend yoga (preferably a face to face class). I’ve found working on my posture really makes a difference to how I look at feel.

Go on a diet and work out. I feel better even before any real weight loss has happened just by virtue of feeling more in control and looking less bloated. Usually by day 2 or 3 I feel a million times better.

I'm sorry OP, it can be hard to motivate yourself when you feel a bit overwhelmed by things.

If it's nice out where you are, can you just get out in nature for a bit today - it will definitely make you feel better. Then try and tackle one thing this week - whether it's having a healthy breakfast and going for a long walk, or doing some pampering in the evening to help your skin. Maybe take some vitamins, or listen to a meditation or something before bed to help you get good sleep.

Tell yourself you are worth the effort and you deserve to feel good. Now that the weather is (hopefully) improving, can you set yourself a little challenge for the summer - more salads and more outdoor activities.
Exercise always makes me feel a million times better, even if I'm dreading it beforehand. You could join a class, or do some home workouts from Youtube. Just start with something easy and build from there.

I had a short haircut years ago, and even though it looked great at first, I felt very exposed with it, it took ages to style properly and the growing out was hideous - never again. I feel your pain.
You could maybe try out something by using some clips or a headband or something to style it differently, would that work?

Also, if you post what products you use on your skin, we can give suggestions of alternatives. What is your current skincare routine?

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply!

I originally popped a posting for traffic as I thought there was a specific section for health that my post might have been better suited in.

Tbh my skin at the moment I suspect I have some mild rosacea and have tried to strip back my routine.

At the moment it's..

AM -
Cleanser (used to be Elemis but my face felt quite tight) so I've just purchased a La Roche Posay and I hope this May sort out the redness.
Estée Lauder ANR
Elf holy hydrating moisturiser

PM -
Elemis Cleansing Balm (My Holy Grail)
Same cleanser as AM
Estée Lauder ANR
Elf holy hydration moisturiser

It's not very exciting but I'm trying to not aggravate my skin more than it is at the moment.
