Wide leg trousers recommendations

Wiennetta · 19/04/2023 17:13

I’m looking for some wide leg trousers - my criteria are that they are soft/slightly slouchy and on the casual side rather than smart (so not the stiffer/thicker fabric that smart trousers often come in). Probably looking for a dark colour. I’m tall so they have to be long enough!

I really like these Reformation ones in the slate or black, but they’re on the pricey side. I could afford them but if there’s something similar for a bit less then I’d be happy. I’m not looking for fast fashion options though, I don’t mind spending on quality and they’re a bit of a basic/staple that’ll be worn a lot. Had the cheapie M&S black wide leg trousers and they’re ok but want an upgrade now.

Any recommendations? Thank you!

You are coming across quite condescending here Wiennetta. Fast fashion and it’s “ethics” don’t really appeal to anyone do they? But a lot of people dont have much choice as they can’t afford to shop elsewhere. Plus like a PP said most high street shops all have their issues. Just bear that in mind when dismissing people trying to be helpful here.

I’m certainly not being condescending intentionally, I specifically said in my originally post that im not looking for fast fashion options so when people suggest H&M, Zara and Matalan it’s a bit frustrating. Those are very obviously fast fashion brands.

I’m looking for good quality, something that will last and something that is reasonably ethical.

I agree spending more doesn’t guarantee it’s ethical. But spending less than a certain amount pretty much guarantees that it’s not. (Unless second hand or discounted etc).

Interesting article.

Also I can afford to shop elsewhere. So I do. As I said in my original post.

Winetta- I have these from good old M & S this: https://www.marksandspencer.com/side-stripe-wide-leg-trousers/p/clp60517410?intid=mobileappppdpshare

Might fit your criteria - come in a range of colours

ScarletWitchM · 21/04/2023 19:36

Also coming to say M&S I have some lovely black ones that fit the slouchy feel but are smart enough for work - can’t link as it just diverts to the app but Google M&S wide leg and they have a good selection. My only gripe is the regular length is quite long

It's not condescending. She stated in her op she didn't want fast fashion recommendations.
It's like saying to someone looking for a 5 bed countryside house to consider looking at 2 bed rental in town.
she can have a criteria!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 21/04/2023 19:40

Anyway op, after this thread and the thread about trainers and wide leg trousers I'm off to have a look for some myself :)

Of course she can have a criteria - I didn’t say that. And she’s not been saying “I can afford to shop in more expensive places so please don’t recommend cheap places”. Instead she has lumped all cheap places as being “fast fashion” and that that doesn’t appeal to her ethically - THAT to me is condescending. But whatever.

Incognitopah · 22/04/2023 02:16

Oh just saw you don’t want M&S…reiss? Other stories?

Good for you.
I hope you find a lovely pair of trousers.

I love how in a post trying to convince us you’re not condescending, you include an article for us little people to read!

You seem very easily offended. I asked for non fast fashion recommendations. I explained why I don’t want to buy from certain shops. My choice, my money. If you’re this offended by my post about something I want to buy, within my criteria, then I suggest you simply just go away.

How about the Abercrombie and Fitch Sloane tailored pants? I can't link as it will come up with a non-UK site if I do.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/04/2023 14:37

Arket have got some very nice, soft, slouchy linen ones. I didn't buy them today, but was definitely tempted. No idea if they meet any of your credentials or not though.

stringbean · 23/04/2023 15:05

I have these from Reiss. Smart enough for work and perfect length on me at 5'8. Fabric heavy enough so they hang really nicely.

Sadik · 23/04/2023 15:06

Komodo have some lovely ones (though sadly the dusky pink is sold out) - I have the opposite problem as am short and their trousers never fit me. I like their clothes as they're organic cotton etc but without the hippy vibe of a lot of eco-options. I really like their wide leg jumpsuits as well but again I'm just too short :(

I've got some Toast and also some Me & Em wide legs that have a nice, slouchy vibe but can also be smartened up. The Toast ones have worn particularly well - think I must have had them 6 or 7 years and I've worked them hard. They're not significantly cheaper than the ones in your op though.

Wiennetta · 24/04/2023 11:43

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I actually got a pair from eBay which I’m waiting for… hopefully they fit!

Oh those Komodo jumpsuits are so cool. Bit pricey for me. But fabulous.
