Handbag smells of smoke - what can I do?

I bought a lovely, good as new leather bag from Vinted but it's arrived with the dust bag which reeks of cigarette smoke and some of it has transferred onto the bag too.

I'm going to ditch the dust bag but how can I get the smell out of the bag itself? It's not that strong so hopefully the problem is easily solved.

I've put it beside an open window to see if these helps but if it doesn't then what should I try? Baking soda? I've also read that diluted white vinegar does the trick but am concerned that may damage the leather on account of it being acidic.

Half fill a Ziploc bag with bicarb. Put the open Ziploc inside the leather bag. Leave until smoke smell goes.

Don't rub bicarb into the actual leather, though, as it changes its acidity level and can damage it.

The inside of the bag is ok, it's mainly the outside that smells.

Put it in a plastic bag in the freezer for a few hours.

Try all the above, but when I accidentally bought a bag that smelled of cigarettes, the only thing that fixed it was the washing machine.

Wash the dust bag and hang the actual bag on the line?

Leather in the washing machine??

Yes, I also washed a leather jacket the other week - check out the Parisiennes thread if you're curious. I'm not saying everyone should try it, and I'd certainly think twice if it was something brand new. But it was fine!

Clean it with saddle soap. The £3 stuff works well.
