My feet hurt so much 😫

I'm currently on a city break in Europe. I brought my Skechers trainers which were mega comfortable last summer but I'm in agony. I have both regular (big toe) bunions and tailors bunions on my little toes. No amount of padding or gel inserts seem to be helping. Please recommend me some comfortable (wide fit if necessary but if possible not fugly) trainers I can buy before my next holiday in June Sad

Have you thought about going down the route of walking boots/sandals instead of trainers?

defi · 18/04/2023 20:39

Have you tried the brand fitflop they do more then flip flops

waltzingparrot · 18/04/2023 20:40

Skechers do wide fit trainers too. Same comfort, just wider to accommodate the bunions.

Barefoot shoes all the way for me

Bluebells1970 · 18/04/2023 20:43

I resisted for years but gave into my chiropodists recommendations and bought a pair of Joya trainers. And never looked back. Comfiest trainers I've ever had. Ugly as sin but I've gone past caring tbh with my arthritic bones in the side of my feet. These literally are like walking on clouds.

Vionic aren't bad either but I tend to have to order 2 or 3 pairs for fit as they can vary.

Barefoot shoes for me too. Possibly not a quick fix if you have foot problems caused by shoes (bunions) but maybe worth researching.

rebekahnorris · 18/04/2023 21:01

Try the brand Hotter. They do wide fit shoes and trainers.

Leftbutcameback · 18/04/2023 21:15

I use foot oil too (invented by some SAS guy, sold at outdoor stores) and find that helps as well as good socks.

blisstwins · 18/04/2023 21:17

Dr scholls sneakers for me

Inkblue · 18/04/2023 21:19

I have the same problem and really like Salomon walking shoes. They are a bit heavy for a summer city holiday. Try Keen sandals too. Someone recommended them on another thread and I bought a pair. They are fab and don’t cause problems with the tailor’s bunion.

LotsOfBalloons · 18/04/2023 21:22

I got a foot insole made which helps a lot

Interestingly the orthotic/foot doctor really didn't like sketchers (which I'd been wearing) as not supportive enough for what I needed.

I do like walking trainers. Ugly but solid. And have succumbed to the odd hotter (they're not all as bad as you think and the ones I have have a supportive sole)

Specifically designed for bunion-sufferers!

carriedout · 18/04/2023 21:36

Men's trainers are good as they are wider across the front.

I'm interested in this but can't seem to find what you mean. Any chance of a link?

CMOTDibbler · 18/04/2023 22:18

Sole Bliss do sneakers designed for wide feet with bunions and are v comfortable

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 19/04/2023 07:11

I'm also a barefoot shoer but it takes getting used to so might not be the solution for June.

The problem with regular 'wide fit' shoes is that they are mostly only wide at the mid/arch section but rarely accommodate the toes (and bunions!). Take a look at Altra Lone Peak, they're wider in the toe box but still have cushioning.

learieonthewildmoor · 19/04/2023 07:18

Camper Peu have a wide toe box, super comfortable and great for walking.

viccat · 19/04/2023 07:29

Barefoot shoes for me too, I can walk miles without pain now.

Thanks for your recommendations. I'll be Googling when I get home.

You might be able to buy some orthotics in a pharmacy - i use off-the-shelf ones here and they made all the difference in my bunion days.

Did you have your bunions removed, did this work permanently?

Same for me, I can't bear to wear my old "normal" shoes now, I can't believe I squeezed my poor feet into them for years. Love that blog too, v helpful information!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/04/2023 08:56

I don’t have bunions. I do however have a permanent and agonising corn on my little toe. Before having it operated on, the podiatrist suggested buying shoes 2 sizes bigger. This has really helped. It’s not a perfect solutions the arch isn’t always in the right place. But it really helps. I just wear Airforce or New Balance.

Morestrangerthings · 19/04/2023 09:02

a friend of mine with a foot and ankle problem wore Fit Flops for years. A previous poster suggested them too.
