Help! Ideas for Buckingham Palace visit

I've mentioned in another post that I'm going to Buckingham Palace next month with my DD who is receiving an award.

I'm stressing about what to wear. Im plus size 22-24 and very anxious. Definitely not a dress person. I need comfort as we are traveling there and back the same day. So far I'm wearing black trousers, black boots and bought a black bag. I need a nice top to stand out a bit to add a bit of special to the occasion. I'm thinking of a detailed blouse preferably white/cream. I'd like it lose as I have rolls I'd like to cover, and light as I do over heat easily.

Any suggestions? I don't mind spending extra as I don't get treats like this very often.

I would see if you can find grey or navy trousers. Just a bit less winter like. I like the pink jacket and white blouse you've chosen

Where is the pink jacket from, @upee ?

CountryCousin · 28/04/2023 11:41

Don’t know how much you want to spend, but an outfit like this is the sort of idea I have for you. (These trousers come in your size.)

I bought it from next £85 but didn't see any matching trousers, I'm not sure I could carry them off anyway

I see Sophie has recently worn something similar

But what was Sophie doing on that day ?

At the Buckingham Palace presentations, people tend to dress much more smartly than on other occasions.

Catherine is rather partial to a nice trouser suit at the moment - when she's touring the Country, and being asked to join in activities - but at Buckingham Palace she moves it up a few notches, as does Sophie.

I agree with this. Sophie was visiting a performance arts college.

Duchess Sophie 'looks beautiful' in £206.50 pink blazer from Me + Em

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh stepped out today to Brockhill Performing Arts College in Kent, wearing a gorgeous blazer from Me + Em.

This would be me taking it up a couple of notches lol. Any further and I'd be out of my comfort zone possibly wouldn't even go I'd be to anxious.

Well, you know where your "comfort boundaries" are .

For me, - and I suspect most other people - I feel more comfortable 'fitting in' with what other people are wearing.
I presume that is why you started the thread.

It is such a lovely day, and so outside the everyday experience for most people, that everyone I know who has been, wanted to know what others would be wearing, so that they can fit in. Smile

Could you book a personal stylist session or visit a boutique where you can try some things on?

Stemmingthetide · 29/04/2023 13:42

@upee for shoes, if you are on grass think wedge heels or flats rather than heels that dig in.

I've found it very difficult to find photos of previous presentations to see what parents actually wear.

I attended this a few years ago. People were generally smartish, but the most important thing is to wear comfy shoes. As there's a lot of standing around.
I wore linen culottes & a blazer, plus espadrilles. My DD wore a very pretty dress & the boys were very much suited & booted. Black trousers with a nice jacket is absolutely fine. You need to feel comfortable. You're corralled into groups as there were masses of us. We had Sophie who was wearing a beige practical Mac. She was lovely, but not remotely glamorous, as the weather was very changeable. So do bring some sunscreen, as I got a little burnt & an umbrella/Mac.
