Hi all I’m 50, 5’4 and pear shaped. Size 16. Hate shopping as find it so hard to find something I like on me. I’m going to one of these brunch Prosecco afternoons which I’m looking forward to but have not a clue what to wear. Help would be really appreciated. Budget around the £60 mark. Thank you!

What sort of venue? I go to brunches at least once a month and rarely get properly dressed up.

AgnesGray · 15/04/2023 11:26

I also wouldn't get dressed up.

I'd probably go with jeans, loafers and a shirt

Happyface246 · 15/04/2023 11:27

It’s in London and has got a few drag artists so kind of an afternoon thing.

It’s for a hen do.

Yeah whatever you feel comfortable in. My staple is a skirt, t-shirt and converse.

choochooandspook · 15/04/2023 11:31

jeans, tshirt/shirt blazer and depending on weather trainers or sandals

MorrisZapp · 15/04/2023 11:34

It's a prosecco brunch for a hen party! Jeans aren't illegal but surely OP will want to look her best?

I am beyond tired with these eye rolling responses to people going to events. 'oh I wouldn't get dressed up just for THAT.' It's so sneery.

Personally I wouldn't insult the bride by wearing house clothes to her hen, I'd be in a dress with wedge heels and a clichéd little jacket (denim or biker) and I'd do my very best with my hair and makeup. And I'd love it!

I wasn't being sneery. I said I go to these often and I personally don't get dressed up. I told OP to wear what she feels comfortable in. How is that sneery?

AgnesGray · 15/04/2023 11:35

It's not meant to be sneery? I love jeans. That would be what I'd wear to look 'my best'. So kindly do one with YOUR sneeriness

I'd feel a right twat overdressed at an all you can drink brunch but each to their own

MorrisZapp · 15/04/2023 11:36

My apologies, the hen party response came later. I feel a bit silly now.

I've seen groups of friends at these brunches and they're always dressed to impress. Doesn't have to be expensive, marks and spencer have brilliant dresses.

evtheria · 15/04/2023 11:38

I usually find the restaurant on Instagram and snoop what others have worn there, it helps me narrow down 'how dressy' to go.

hulahoopqueen · 15/04/2023 11:44

This would be the sort of vibe I'd go for :)

Sorry that was my fault should have put the Hen bit in the original message….

See what everyone else is wearing and figure it out from there?

gogohmm · 15/04/2023 12:11

Whatever you feel like you look good in, there will be no overall dress code but I would probably go mid calf dress and converse myself

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 15/04/2023 12:12

If it is 'all you can drink' I would suggest something easily washable, maybe even rubber so that you can be hosed down at the end of the session!

tupperwaretowers · 15/04/2023 12:16

If it’s a bottomless brunch I’d accessorize with knee pads and a crash helmet!

Niftythrifter · 15/04/2023 12:20

i would go with the dress, jacket and Converse myself.

ShagratandGorbag4ever · 15/04/2023 12:32

Dress, blazer if it's not a hot day, tights and shoes you can walk in even if not completely sober.

Summer2424 · 15/04/2023 12:36

Hi @Happyface246 try the Dorothy Perkins website, some really nice dresses on there 💃 have a lovely time x

Workyticket · 15/04/2023 12:40

This is brunch perfect and will absolutely suit your size and shape. Versatile to dress up or down

MadEyeMoodysEye · 15/04/2023 21:12

Midi dress or jumpsuit, flat sandals and denim jacket.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 16/04/2023 00:52

I work near a venue that does bottomless brunches and it amazes me on the regular that people can get that drunk in two and a half hours.
Most of the women I see going there are massively dressed up - heels, tiny dresses, loads of make up. A proportion in midi dresses and trainers. The hen dos are almost always done up to the nines.

My only advice would be don't wear anything you're precious about getting wrecked.
