Botox hasn’t worked for me :-(

So I had Botox for the first time in my forehead and crows feet about 5 weeks ago, after 2 weeks there was no difference, I couldn’t get another appointment until last week for my top up so last week the practitioner whacked the rest in my forehead only, to see if we could get a result.

It’s now been a week since my top up and although my forehead feels ever so slightly heavier, there is still no noticeable difference.

She did say that unfortunately I could be one of these really rare people who are resistant to Botox.

Is anyone resistant to Botox and if so, is there anything else you do to help with ageing? Would Prophilo be an option do you think? I know fillers are an option but I don’t really need those yet, I just have some fine lines on my forehead and crows feet that I’d like to solve and you can’t really do that with fillers!

Has anyone else had Botox not work for them? Feeling gutted tbh, not least because it’s £200 completely down the drain!

Could it be the product she used ?
Had it been diluted as the price you paid is rather low for 2 areas.

AlwaysGinPlease · 16/04/2023 07:54

Who did you go to? £200 is incredibly cheap.

Eweanlamb · 16/04/2023 07:56

I’m not sure. I know two people that also go to this lady and their Botox works just fine so I don’t think she’s diluted it or anything.

I think I’ll find out what product she’s used and perhaps give it one more go in the future with a different toxin but I guess I have to be prepared to sacrifice another £200 or whatever for no results. I think I’d only get one area done next time though just to rest the waters before I wasted more money on different areas if it isn’t going to work.

I just wondered if there was another, similar treatment that people can do as I think unfortunately it’s just like that I’m resistant to Botox and I really don’t want to grow old gracefully, lol!

People can develop an immunity to Botox, and once they do, it will never work for them again. My consultant neurologist told me, patients can only have botox injections a minimum of 3 months apart - any closer together than that, risks developing immunity. However, people who are having it for medical reasons in big muscles, are having bigger doses than the microscopic amounts cosmetically.

They never mentioned inborn immunity to it, but it sounds like you have it? Then again, some people have allergies whereas others don’t?

For those saying £200 is cheap, I didn’t realise it was. I live in a relatively cheap part of the U.K. (nowhere near London and not in the SE) so most things are cheaper here so I didn’t question it.

The lady I go to is an NHS nurse, but has been doing aesthetics at weekends for years now. Like I say, I know two other people that go to her (hence the recommendation) and their Botox looks fab.

I pay £200 for 3 areas. My Botox is normally successful but above one eye she finds it hard to hit due to a particularly strong muscle. She does not want to add any extra as it may have a detrimental effect. Unfortunately for some people it's not as effective. It depends on how your body metabolises the Botox etc.
my Botox wears off very quickly as I'm a runner.

FlutterbButterfly · 16/04/2023 16:59

I'm booked in for my first ever procedure next week. Sane as you OP forehead and '11s'. Will be £225 in SE just outside London. Top award wining aesthetic nurse and does everything by the book. I have been told due to the strength of my muscles (very deep lines) test it'll take a year to get the full effect, it won't be a quick fix for me.

Rebecca1985x · 23/12/2023 03:15

Yep happened to me, I became fully immune by the 3rd go. Did top ups, changed practitioners, nothing worked in the end. Worked like magic the first time though.

MCOut · 23/12/2023 04:22

Do you think it might have something to do with dosage? I had Botox for the first time last month and the doctor specifically said she was using a small dosage because it was my first time.

GenXQuestion · 23/12/2023 05:30

I have recently switched to Dysport as Botox was not working. Is that an option, OP?

Sususudio · 23/12/2023 06:20

I am not resistant to Botox, but I am 51, and happy with the way I look, thanks to prescription grade Tret. No wrinkles, though I do have dark circles and some sagging . I don't plan to use injectables, having got this far.

Lifeasiknowitisout · 23/12/2023 06:28

Is she using Botox? Botox is actually a brand, but also used interchangeably for the procedure.

Does she have another brand that she uses?

I am not immune but it doesn’t take in my 11s as well. I don’t mind because it gives me a natural effect and I can still move my face.

I have had prophilo. I didn’t rate it tbh. It definitely won’t have a Botox like impact.

HermioneWeasley · 23/12/2023 06:43

My practitioner who is an a&e doctor 3 days a week charges £180 for two areas so £200 isn’t weirdly cheap. City in the north of England.

huggyhoo · 23/12/2023 07:30

It can depend on the skill of the practitioner. First time I had to go back to go back and have the top up. Second time didn't last long at all. Third time I (by accident) saw their main practitioner and having heard my experiences to date said he would try and ensure I had a better experience this time. He injected in a few more places across the frown area and it's fantastic this time. Does the place you've gone to generally have a good reputation?

GettingStuffed · 23/12/2023 13:56

I looked this up and two reasons the internet said is 1 not enough product
And 2 not being injected in the correct place.
