comfortable versatile footwear for a more put together look

Interested in some comfortable, versatile footwear for a more put together look please probably not trainers or boots. Thinking pottering around town (so walking a bit but not muddy walks), going out for drinks or to a nice restaurant.

I have had PF in the past and sometimes my Achilles bothers me. I mainly wear wide leg trousers (navy/ black usually or sometimes beige/chino) jeans and occasionally skirts. I am tall 5’10’, overweight and in my 50’s if that helps. Can’t decide on footwear style/styles or colours if I decide on something I will get a nice bag.

Hi, i’ve also had PF and Achilles issues, so no flats unless they have an arch support. Birks are great for this. I’ve a few pairs in different styles. I also find heels don’t aggravate PF, and wedge type espadrilles seem to work well in the summer.

Yes sorry I always buy shoes with good arch support.

Thanks any links to anything that would go with something like these trousers in terms of footwear to dress them up a bit and that I could wear again and is comfortable please? I have a couple of nice tops but going out for a meal with family and elderly mil who would look down her nose if I turned up in trainers and make comments I had made no effort even if the most expensive trainers ever. SIL’s both younger, loaded, both very smart and usually wear expensive dresses and heels but I don’t do heels anymore.

I used to wear Birkenstocks a lot but my feet fell out with them. I also went grey during lockdown so unsure of my style so need a bit of confidence and a big boost generally as have lost my way a bit.

Thanks 🙏

Anyone else trainers everywhere and none I tried on seemed very comfy or dressy especially white which looks too stark.

Anyone else?

Might have to resort to comfortable slightly smarter trainer type things with good cushioning at the heel if anyone can recommend anything?

Thanks both I quite like both suggestions but unfortunately I really need a lot of cushioning in the heel area (which my day to day trusty Brookes trainers provide-but not very smart) or to go backless.

Fitflop white rally trainers. Comfy cushioned support and stylish. Great for PF.

Shoes are always my downfall as well. Never know what to put with what.
To add insult to injury I'm short with good sturdy legs, think heels look too formal these days plus the discomfort, but yet need a bit of a lift.

So if any wizard out there has a solution I'm all ears

Itsanotherhreatday · 16/04/2023 22:51

Have you tried sketchers?

orangejuggling · 16/04/2023 23:04

Timberland are doing some really comfortable lightweight lace up boots at the moment, in stone and black. The heels are particularly padded. Not a brand I ever considered, but they have got some nice stuff for those of us with dodgy feet.

MultipleVeganPies · 17/04/2023 07:11

So what if your MIL looks down her nose at certain footwear…

wear what you like, choose a style you like

I have awkward feet and I find that Gabor and Pikolinos generally do well made shoes that give enough support. Fitflop is also good.

HOFF trainers are quite well padded at the back.

Thanks ideally I wanted to avoid trainers and wanted a bit of a smarter look that I can wear spring/summer but I don’t think I have much choice. I really like the look of Hoff trainers but we don’t have a stockist anywhere nearby to try them on.

I also wondered about these again trainers not as supportive as my current trainers but still trainers that I wanted to avoid but possibly smarter with the silver on and don’t rub my heel area or are they really naff? https://www.clarks.co.uk/c/Craft-Match-Lo/p/26170391

What about a flatform sandal?

Depending on budget, Grenson have nice suede trainers as well as brogues and loafers. Fitflop rally come in colours other than white. Radley have had some nice flat shoes. Clarks also have lots of flats to choose from. I use slimflex insoles to prevent my PF. They are green in colour and I've had them from Amazon paying anything from £6 to about £9/10.

Frosty1000 · 17/04/2023 15:45

Apologies ridiculously long link there 😆

BeeBB · 17/04/2023 17:52

Thanks all the black sketchers wouldn’t go with black, navy and jeans also as plus sized lady with size 8 feet not sure I can quiet pull them off.

I like the tan colour of the mint velvet shoes but think they maybe too modern and out there for a 57 year old?

I like the look of loafahs but the heel backs on the ones I have tried on are far too rigid for my heel/achilles problem.
