Once and for all how do I find out my style and whittle down to a fully functioning wardrobe?

I have too many clothes but equally always have nothing to wear.

I know I'm a spring rectangle but still can't work out my style, I have to work very hard to not just wear joggers/leggings every day.

Is there a way (including paying) I can figure it out and to help me put together a wardrobe where everything is 'right'?

I did a styled by Susie a few years ago but don't feel it was 'right' for me at all, I do not suit biker jackets!

John Lewis do a free style service. www.johnlewis.com/our-services/personal-styling

You don't have to buy anything, but you probably will!!

I don't think you can pay for this really, it needs an ongoing process of focusing on buying what you like and then making sure the next thing you buy goes with it!

I would start by going through what you've already got and picking out the things that really suit you?

There's really nothing wrong with wearing joggers/leggings if you're comfortable in them.

Look at Anushka Rees style blog.
Write down what you don't like eg biker jacket and then opposite write what style of jacket you like instead eg blazer. Then carry on for everything else you don't like.
I never wear long flowy skirts...I prefer knee length pencil skirts instead.
I never wear low waist jeans...I prefer high waist.
I never wear bleached or ripped jeans... prefer dark blue or black jeans.
You'll soon see your style coming through and can start to get rid of stuff.

I bought Anuschka Rees's book after a recommendation on another thread. I'm only on day 2 of the first task - photographing every outfit you wear for a fortnight - but have dipped in to future chapters and am quite enjoying it. It was quite cheap second hand.

Ooh thank you, and I like the sound of things to help you work out your own style rather than being prescriptive

I saw a stylist recently - she did a good job of the basics - IDing what did and didn’t work in my wardrobe, and picking out 3 basic looks that worked. I didn’t go for everything she picked, but I learned the basics on better shapes and things that I was over worrying about, and made some decent picks of my own based on that. PM if you’d like her details. She’s London but works online (except if you want a wardrobe go through).

@Matchingcollarandcuffs it's called the curated closet.

There’s another thread about the Curated Closet if you want to check it out.

I’ve done an online version of this and I’m going for an in store appointment on Sat, the online one was great.

Have a look at the closest stylist - elena taggart on Instagram. She does paid wardrobe edits too.
