August wedding guest and need shoes/sandals

Let me start by saying that I’ll be building my outfit round my footwear 🤣
We’ve been invited to a family wedding in August. Smart country house type venue with a formal dress code. I’m in the father of the bride’s generation.

Over the last few years I’ve been prioritising comfort over style and I’ve lived in Fitflops, birkies, Skechers etc. I have boots for cold weather and brogues (which I hate) for smarter occasions which I wear with trousers. I also have a crate full of heels and strappy sandals which make me wince to think about wearing them.

So I need something dressy but comfortable and it needs to be either a timeless classic that I’ll get years of use from or a really cheap throwaway that I can charity shop afterwards. Size 3.5 - 4 wide fitting and I’m short in stature.

Any suggestions?

The ones I linked aren't real suede but are inexpensive so could be dispensible if damaged I suppose (sorry Greta T 😳).

@EveryWitchWaybutLoose I’m old enough to be forgiven for being unfashionable but I adore kitten heels. Always have.

I tend not to look at the big 4 pattern companies as the independents have suited me better. I’m leaning towards True bias calvin in a cotton lawn I have in shades of turquoise

Same here re kitten heels. They're much prettier than block heels.

I really want the sandals the model for my possible dress pattern is wearing. New Look has one very close but they’re out of stock.

Bought these and wore them last night .
Mainly trainers and boots for me these days but these were really comfortable and a bargain .
They come up quite small though so I got a 5 and am normally 4/4.5

I've just bought these. They're so comfortable. www.clarks.co.uk/c/Kitly-Go/p/26170984

I’ve found a couple of Clarks sandals on Vinted which I may take a gamble on.

I have my eye on these for smart but comfy wear. They come in other colours. Like the brown heel which won't scuff the way coated ones do.

@LivelyBlake Oh my goodness thank you for that link. I’ve just found my perfect wedding guest shoes on there!

Jins · 17/04/2023 20:37

I’ve bought 3 pairs on Vinted. One pair totally flat, one pair with a small heel and one pair with a medium wedge heel. One of them should work and then I can start thinking about the outfit.

Thanks all

@Jins Brilliant! All those shoes look great and much better for the environment.

Jins · 19/04/2023 12:41

The middle one is the clear winner for comfort although I’m still waiting for the flat sparkly ones. The wedges are a little high for true comfort. Total cost for the three pairs inc postage is £15.28 so I’m extremely happy.

Hi @Jins

I found some very comfy and wide fitting shoes and sandals at Bonmarche. They have a quite a range currently and really affordable prices. Plus they are doing a 20% off at the moment.

Great tip @Janet32. I’d never have thought of there

I have the Hotter 'Tourist' sandals which I think look quite smart and come in a range of colours. They are also in 3 widths, and a 20% discount is available at the moment.

Janet32 · 19/04/2023 13:19

@Jins you are most welcome. I understand the struggle with wide fitting shoes that look good and are practical.

princessbear80 · 19/04/2023 13:45

Have you looked at Seasalt for sandals? This pair are similar to the ones in the picture of the dress you’re thinking of making.

Jins · 19/04/2023 15:02

The seasalt sandals aren’t bad but not close enough really. It’s the simplicity of the ones in the photos that appealed, along with the true ankle strap. I’ll try to have a look in a store.
I like the hotter tourist ones. They are on my very long shortlist.

Oh good, I have them in a two colour way - tan and gold but they don't seem to do them now. Love the olive ones though! I would advise going into a shop if you can as the extra wide are only just wide enough for me!

Blueberrycreampie · 23/04/2023 12:40

Just had a look at Dorothy Perkins website (didn't know they were still going) and they have a good range of wide and extra wide sandals at very good prices.

Jins · 23/04/2023 12:55

I thought Dorothy Perkins was no more as well and they do have some lovely sandals.

I think I’m sorted for the wedding now with one of my Vinted buys but I’m very tempted by some more

Yes I know! I've just found out there's an actual shop not too far away from me so I'm planning a visit soon👍.

FL0 · 23/04/2023 13:21

If you get on with Sketchers, they sell a low wedge sandal in white with sparkly bits that would work with a midi or maxi dress or wide flowing trousers.

ohfibonacci · 23/04/2023 13:25

Wedges. Smart enough, practical for grass

I would get some stylish wedge or
Flatform shoes in a wide fit but also have some fotflops in the bag for later on when the dancing starts
