menopausal skin! This keeps happening! (pic inc)

I've just turned 48 and have a few peri menopausal symptoms. Coping ok and not taking any hormones (apart from mini pill) or drugs.

My skin is as dry as a bone and starting to get annoying

I've tried clarinet and Vichy menopause range and this keeps happening see picture!

I'm assuming it's sensitive now.

Can anyone please recommend a skincare brand and maybe a youtuber who is similar?

All suggestions appreciated xx

Looks like you might be allergic to something in the lotions. Have you tried Aveeno?

abstractplantpot · 11/04/2023 09:30

I haven't. would it be a good moisturiser ?

I'm post menopausal now, but my skin has recently gone like that as a result of using a certain skin cream. I am now using La Roche Posay toleraine line of products. These are for sensitive skin. They are starting to calm down my skin.

I listened to a menopause podcast with Dr Louise Newsom where she interviewed a dermatologist and he recommended Cera Ve.

However, HRT would possibly really help too.

My skin is dry, so I decided to be better with my regime.

Previously, I applied Oil of Olay in the morning before make-up, and then at night for years, I did nothing - went to bed with my make up on, no night time regime at all. My skin was generally fine.

Bit dry lately so I've been very good - taking make up off and moisturising before bed with a night cream containing hyaluronic acid - let me tell you, my skin did not like this one bit! Got very red and irritated!

Last night, I did absolutely nothing, and skin looks better for it. Go figure.

I suspect that the cream you're using is too harsh for your skin.

Are they spots or patches of dry skin (sorry can’t make it out).

MerylSqueak · 11/04/2023 10:40

My rosacea looked quite a lot like this. Soolantra sorted it out. Red wine and sun made it flare

SilverGlitterBaubles · 11/04/2023 10:41

Clinique works for me

CornedBeef451 · 11/04/2023 10:49

I can only use oilatum as my skin seems to react to anything else. You might need to try a very simple moisturiser without anything fancy in it.

I use oilatum and then a thin layer of Vaseline to seal it in at night as my skin is getting dryer.

Lucia574 · 11/04/2023 11:27

Mine was similar. I subscribed to Dermatica and the lotion they sent worked very well.

TheMatriarchy · 11/04/2023 11:38

Ive been quite impressed with skin + me, you fill out a form and upload pictures of you face, and they send you something suitable for your skin once a month. You can get the first month for £3.50 with a friend referral, and its £35 per month after that (cancel anytime). The other product I like it The Nue barrier cream moisturiser, really sorted my skin after too harsh products messed it up. Cerave smoothing face wash is also good for smoothing rough skin. And Bioderma sensibio micellar water (pink bottle) for removing makeup.

I follow

On Instagram she's young but answers loads of questions and does routines for different skin types like her mum and sister.

As someone else said a prescription service like dermatica or skin+me might work for you , you take a photo of your skin and let them know your skin goals and they create a moisturiser specifically for you. I use skin+me, I'll put link below where you can get a month free just £3.50 p&p. I really rate them I've been with them for 3 years and the customer care has been excellent.

I second aveeno for both face and body

Cera ve is good too

KateTheOccasionallyLate · 11/04/2023 16:07

CeraVe brought me out in hives!

Definitely try to get sample sizes of anything you are planning to try, or buy v small versions. You might have a sensitivity to a particular emulsifier or something that is in skincare (including some 'sensitive' skincare) and it can be a very costly process to figure out what it is.

Or if your skin has just become overly sensitive as a result of reacting to something in one of your current creams, you might just keep reacting to things if you try them now (even if normally you wouldn't, and you won't in the future once your skin has calmed down again).

It can also be the combination of whatever you are using to wash your face, plus the cream, that is causing the reaction.

If you can possibly do nothing for the next few days (no make-up, no face wash, no moisturiser, no scrubbing, just wash with water) it might calm down and then you can try to introduce a gentle moisturiser and see what happens.
