Amazing skin of Alexandra Soveral - genes or products?

Guiltmaiden · 10/04/2023 14:01

Has anyone seen the amazing skin of this therapist who is in her 50s? https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm3aoEeIRO3/ Anyone use her products? Does anyone out there have experience of using her products and/or having a treatment at her salon? I've tried loads of high, mid and low end products but never seem to find anything that truly suits me (eczema and seborrheic dermatitis). Do you think having amazing skin is down to genetic luck, expensive skincare, diet or a combination? And for those of you with amazing skin - what are your tips? Thank you.

Her photo is filtered. You can't even see her eyelashes because they are blurred. The lighting is very soft and glowy. She probably has good skin but not as good as this deceptive photo would have us believe.

Skybluepinky · 10/04/2023 14:04

Genetics.

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 14:05

Also she is smiling which lifts the nasolabial folds and jowls. Her eyebrow is raised which opens up the eyes. She's posed in a way that hides saggyness and the wrinkles are not showing due to blurriness and light.

Filtered. Please don't believe everything that you see on Instagram

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 14:08

Just seen a pic of her holding a purple card with vines on the wall behind her where she is dressed in black and she definitely looks older than the photo in the op which proves my points. She does look her age or a bit older. I would believe 50s to 60s tbh as she has age spots and her hair quality is menopausal.

Ihatenicknames · 10/04/2023 14:08

I had a facial at her salon. Not by her personally. It was nice but I didn't feel the need to return.

Ella6 · 10/04/2023 14:08

Is this a PR thread?

Usernamen · 10/04/2023 14:10

Well, the video isn’t filtered, is it.

Whether or not it’s genetics, she’s obviously committed to skin care and skin health, which I imagine is contributing to her great skin.

It won’t just be products though - diet, water, sleep, lack of stress etc.

doadeer · 10/04/2023 14:12

Heavy filter on everything. Most phones even have this setting built in. It's crazy how we never see real skin on pictures or videos.

I think you’re probably right.

Gosh, the shit I fall for these days… 😂

There's less of a filter on this one

She does have lovely skin of course but it looks more normal here

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 14:14

Video is so obviously filtered.

See her here https://www.instagram.com/p/ClImQ7EIjim/

She genuinely looks her age or a bit older which is fine.

Thanks Ihatenicknames. No, it is not a PR thread. Nor is it one of those pleas for turning back the years. I'm not naive to think any product will do that. Nor do I think that having good skin means not having any wrinkle or imperfection. I'm just wanting to know if her stuff is worth the expense (for those wealthy enough to have tried them - I know the prices made me baulk). And whether those with good skin think they're blessed or has anyone on here turned their mediocre skin into the best version of it that they can. And if the latter - please tell me how and with what.

That's more like it.

Cleanse, SPF50. Hydrate. Vitamin C. Retinol.
None of which need to be expensive, or done in a spendy salon.

doadeer · 10/04/2023 14:18

If you eat well, sleep, drink water, minimise stress, keep skin hydrated, protected from the sun, get fresh air... I think those things are all you can do to have lovely skin.

bellac11 · 10/04/2023 14:20

Good skin is always genetics. People like to believe otherwise but you either get lucky or you dont.

Guiltmaiden · 10/04/2023 14:20

Maybe I'll eventually find a cleanser that doesn't anger my touchy skin. Thanks doadeer - I try with all that but sometimes I just wish I could find a cleanser that doesn't anger my touchy skin. The stuff that is strong enough to get it clean makes the dermatitis patches angry.

doadeer · 10/04/2023 14:22

Have you tried oat milk Cleanser from Inky List?

Or cerave, La Roche Posay are both good brands

Guiltmaiden · 10/04/2023 14:29

I have tried CeraVe and La Roche Posay. Currently on Avene. Never heard of Inky List though so thanks doadeer. I seem to have spent decades looking for the ideal cleanser and moisturiser and still have touchy, temperamental skin. The one that upset my skin most was incredibly expensive and that's why I am wary of really shelling out. When I looked at the ingredients it sounded like Vaseline. I think ballac11 is probably right though - you either get lucky or you don't

OP posts:
Guiltmaiden · 10/04/2023 14:39

It isn't, though I can see why you'd think that. I just wanted to know whether anyone on here had invested in products so £££ and whether it paid off. Or whether its just more snake-oil. My rational head says its all genetics but my patchy face (and soul) so wants to believe that someone out there has gone from uneven skin-tone and occasional eczema to relative smooth sailing. I've been reading Anna Murphy's book so blame her for my hope being re-kindled. At least I haven't started poking my face with a shade of jade though.

That last post was to @Usernamen - sorry, not only have I got dodgy skin but can't use Mumsnet properly.😂

If you have money to throw at the problem, go and see a private dermatologist and get your dermatitis treated. Expensive products aren't the answer. Tretinoin and sunscreen are the only things that are proven to make a difference, and they aren't expensive or glamorous.

TriggeredByGravy · 10/04/2023 14:50

Hi Alex!
