47 - skincare questions

Hi I’m 47 & have always had a very basic skincare routine mainly cleanse face with facial wash & flannel & apply moisturiser containing spf 15.
My skin feels dry & I want to ensure I’m using the most effective things on it.

I have adhd and so find it hard to stick to complex routines. I get overwhelmed by the vast choice of products available & end up looking online for hours and getting nowhere.

Please could anyone help me by narrowing things down as to what I really need? I’ve read that a separate higher factor spf is better than one in moisturiser. Is that the same as suncream for the face & should it be applied as well as normal moisturiser, before or after?

Lastly does price mean things are more effective? There are a wide range of prices for skincare and I can’t help feeling if I don’t buy the more expensive brands it won’t be effective.

Thanks for any help.

Firstly, price does not indicate quality. Generally the increased price pays for fancy packaging and advertising. There are so many great affordable brands out there.

Separate SPF is better and should be applied as the very last step after your moisturiser. I would use an SPF specifically for face. Ambre Solaire or La Roche Posay are my favourites.

I would keep my routine very simple if I were you. To focus on dry skin I would use Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. Then follow with a Hyaluronic Acid. I use Hada Labo super lotion in the red bottle which you can get from Superdrug or Amazon. Apply this to damp skin or use Cerave Deep Moisture Spray before you apply it. Follow with a good moisturiser. I’m currently using Byoma Moisturising Gel Cream which is great for protecting your skin barrier, then finish with SPF.

All affordable, great products. Hope that helps a bit.
