Colour analysis

Trying to streamline my clothes and buy fewer, better quality items. But have no idea what really suits me

Can anyone recommend a colour analysis that won't bankrupt me ?

I'd go to JL for a personal shopper session and see what clothes they find for you.
I had my colours done, and I didn't like any of them.

Bemyclementine · 10/04/2023 11:52

Who did you have it done with @DuchessOfSausage ? That's really why I'm asking for recommendations, for someone people have used and had great results with.

I dobt want to go fir a personal shopper, I could afford to buy the clothes they'd suggest, I dobt have any budget. I just want to know what sort of colours/shades I should be looking out for when I need to buy something.

I had a full style analysis which included a colour analysis with Emily at Style Me Happy and I’m really pleased with it. She just does colour analysis for £35 if that’s within budget? It’s all online too, just fill in the questionnaire and send off some photos of your colouring. Hope that helps x

Bemyclementine · 10/04/2023 13:02

I was just looking at that @Youmeandacupoftea . I'm tempted by the colour and body type one which is £75. It's nit really money I've got but tbh I could spend that on 2 or 3 items of clothing that are all wrong!

I've had the Style Me Happy one online too. For £35 it was definitely worth it and has made me consider new purchases more carefully which is great as I need to buy less on impulse anyway! I'm sure I've already saved many times the £35 cost by not buying some clothes I would have done otherwise.

DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 13:06

IIRC it was an independent consultant, and it was arranged through a work-related package.
You can get books that will give you the colours.
I have an old one from about 30yrs ago but Carole Spencer, and that covered body shapes and the like too. Even though it might be from ages ago, the basics still apply. The photos might be a bit dated. Style Counsel by Carol Spenser | Goodreads

It's sort of common sense - you might suit ivory rather than white, navy not black etc

DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 13:22

Apologies to Ms Spenser for getting her name wrong. There are other books too and you'd probably get one from the library or in a charity shop/2nd hand bookshop

I suggested a personal stylist because she might 'see' you in a colour that you'd never have considered.

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 13:22

You can just figure it out yourself for free online, it's not rocket science.

DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 13:25

@PalmtreesAndChampagne , any links?

Zengarden001 · 10/04/2023 13:32

Emily at Style Me Happy is indeed cheap, but worthless imo. It's really hard to do colour analysis through photos (which is all it is). She got mine all wrong - I definitely don't suit warm colours which was her recommendation. Wasted money.

That’s how I looked at it and since having it I’ve cleared out my wardrobe of all the black and things which don’t suit me, got most of them for sale on vinted and I’m now carefully buying things which are the right colours and shape for me. I don’t have the money to buy a whole new wardrobe in one go unfortunately 😂 but I’m feeling more confident about what to look for now and I keep referring back to the analysis to keep on track. And I’ve bought loads on vinted too, lots of brand new and barely worn items 👍

PalmtreesAndChampagne · 10/04/2023 13:36

And then you can find your palette for free online in google images or pinterest.
I took quizes on multiple free websites and blogs, compared my results with celebs, tested my own clothes in natural sunlight and no make up and could see for myself which brightened my face and which didn't. I found it easy to do and I find it easy to identify seasons on others..maybe some people have a difficulty with this so I apologise for saying it's not rocket science..maybe it is hard for some people... I mean they make money out of it so there must be a market!

Did you reach out to her to tell her? And if so, what did she say?

@PalmtreesAndChampagne , followed the link and got stuck at q3 and the ones after it

I had a go and put my hair colour as dark brown and my eyes as blue and at the end it told me that I had brown eyes 😀

to be fair it did suggest dark autumn which I probably was before my hair went salt and pepper

Bemyclementine · 10/04/2023 15:11

@PalmtreesAndChampagne yep I can't do it. I've tried online quizzes before, just tried the one you posted, and I just dont know the answers . My eyes are brown, but warm/ashy/bright? No idea. Then it asks which colours suit me - well I don't know!! That's why I'm doing the test! 🤣

OP posts:
DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 15:35

@Bemyclementine , quite. I didn't like any of the colours in Q3 and other than what I'd been told by the colours lady, I would have said none of them.

Normandy144 · 10/04/2023 15:43

I did house of colour. It's not cheap but it was very good. The big bonus is that it's done in person in full daylight. I just don't think you can get accurate results through photos or via a computer screen. It's not as cheap as some other services but the results are accurate and have saved me so much money in mistakes. They do sell gift vouchers so maybe worth considering if you have a birthday coming up and can ask for vouchers towards the price.

DuchessOfSausage · 10/04/2023 15:52

The lady who did my colours was styled to the nines. Even her car was very much her style and colour. She was very professional though and it was a good exercise.

The best revelations I've had is when I've picked up an item of clothing totally not my usual colour and held it up in front of the mirror and seen it really bring out something in my colouring I'd not seen before.

Shopping wise, if you shop with someone else, let them suggest something for you, but for this, you need a very honest friend or sister. My DM would say I anything looked nice on me, shopping with a friend meant I let her persuade me to buy something I didn't like a and not buy something I loved, shopping with DSis was great if she tried on something that just didn't work for her shape.

I have the same colours as a relative, so in theory the same colours suit both of us.

There are loads online that won't bankrupt you but they generally won't be worth the money you've paid.

You should generally be able to get an entry level CMB consultation for around £120. This is for dominant characteristic only but is more than suitable for the average person. The service includes the cost of your swatch wallet, so if you don't want a palette and just want know your dominant characteristic you might be able to negotiate the price down further.
