Is Under Armour chavvy?

And if you think so, what sports brands are definitely not? This is for wearing generally on days when e.g. a gym visit or walk will be involved. Sometimes in quite ‘smart’ areas.

Please scroll on if you disagree with the whole concept of this question and feel the need to say ‘wear what you like’ 😊

Not chavvy imo

USaYwHatNow · 08/04/2023 21:55

I don't think it's chavvy, I think some of their clothes can be quite subtle and understated. I personally am a fan of gymshark. I've got a couple of pairs of (what feel like!) second skin, high waisted leggings. Got them when I was about a month postnatal. Great for wearing to walk the dog, stick baby in pram, housework, but also look good enough to pair with a slouchy smart/casual jumper, long shirt etc as with clever styling you can hide the small logo and they look like 'normal' non sportswear leggings.

Abcdefgh1234 · 08/04/2023 22:00

Personally imo yes its chavy. As well as the north face its tacky. But to be honest its for workout. No one cares as long as you doing your workout. Gymshark its good but the quality its bit shit, its faded and bobble up easily after wash. I like lulu lemon and on cloud for shoes.

Slimjimtobe · 08/04/2023 22:01

I don’t think it is.

Fourfurrymonsters · 08/04/2023 22:02

I don’t know if it’s chavvy but they fully support trophy hunting and so I’d never wear one of their garments.

Hercisback · 08/04/2023 22:02

Yes.

SleepyRooster · 08/04/2023 22:03

Yep

londonmummy1966 · 08/04/2023 22:06

FIne in the gym but probably not the best thing for walking around naice areas. I think Sweaty Betty probably still has the best gym/leisure cross over stuff. I'm a huge fan of the fast track running jacket which looks quite smart if worn with a casual outfit.

North Face is tacky? You mean the really expensive outdoor/activity clothing brand? Surely not.

LactoseTheIntolerant · 08/04/2023 22:09

I always like sweaty Betty for gym and running wear, their leggings last for ages and stay up are squat proof etc also like Wit, lulumon and Nobull. I go to the gym a lot, and very rarely notice or care about the brands that people wear tbh.

MajesticWhine · 08/04/2023 22:11

I wear Under Armour for gym/sport and it never occurred to me it's chavvy. The t shirts are nice and I have them in quite a few colours. Sweaty Betty is a bit more high end and v good quality.

AuntieStella · 08/04/2023 22:11

Under Armour is and will continue to be a pretty serious baselayer brand principally for rugby, also for other contact sports and distance running.

It'll never look "chavvy" in those circumstances

Sweaty Betty isn't a patch on it for performance (it's very overpriced for its actual quality/performance/durability)

Definitely not chavvy - dhb (Wiggle own brand) and Decathlon own brands - because the poseurs don't wear them, but athletes do.

LadyGodiva4 · 08/04/2023 22:12

I think the term 'chavvy' is rather classist tbh

HappyKoala56 · 08/04/2023 22:12

I wouldn't say it's chavy, no

AuContraire · 08/04/2023 22:13

Not chavvy if worn for exercise.

No sportswear looks good or smart as general clothes.

SmileyPaella · 08/04/2023 22:16

@ChocChipHandbag - yes, it is now. It's part of the the teenager secondary school uniform

isitaline97 · 08/04/2023 22:21

No! It's activewear i wouldn't think twice about wearing to the gym or on a walk. They do some nice waterproof jackets

Notanothernewname · 08/04/2023 22:22

I wouldn't say it's chavvy and if it's obvious you aren't just wearing it and have either been to the gym/for a run/bike ride/etc don't see the problem. I occasionally go to the shop before or after the gym, never considered I might look chavvy in my Nike leggings and trainers.

What? How can they afford it? I earn 6 figures and I would think twice about spending that money! World has gone mad.

WarmSpring · 08/04/2023 22:26

I wear primark / non-branded leggings and tops to the gym or for walks. Never had any comments or issues while exercising.

I just googled. I had no idea that was a thing. Thanks for the heads-up.

Persephonegoddess · 08/04/2023 22:32

If you are looking for good work out kit, try oddballs, they also support good causes and the leggings are supportive with a good depth of waist, under armour has decreased in quality since it became fashionable!

Usernamen · 09/04/2023 07:30

I’m surprised people are saying Sweaty Betty is good quality. I was underwhelmed by their power leggings, sports vest and sports bra. Nothing special for the price. Lululemon is much much better. I also like Varley for activewear.

Personally i think yes. Its become secondary school uniform now. So many kids wear it. My DS in secondary wants one but i dont buy it because its expensive. lots if his friend wear north face, its just become childish and tacky for me. My house near council estate and lots of them wear it. Its like uniform. I dont know how they can afford it or maybe its fake i dont know. As i’m high earner and still think twice to buy it.
