What’s fashionable for tween girls?

Hi all. Got my niece’s birthday approaching and she’s asked for clothes. Happy to get her something nice but I don’t have girls her age (11) so I have no idea what’s fashionable these days. I’ve offered to go shopping with her, but would also appreciate some pointers! Nothing in the hundreds, but after something quality rather than the basics. Thanks.

It's hard to generalise as fashion tastes differ so much. What kind of stuff does she normally wear- dresses? Sporty ? Something else ?

WheelsUp · 08/04/2023 20:50

Is she turning 11 or turning 12? Year 6 versus Year 7 can also mean different tastes amongst the age group.

AssumingDirectControl · 08/04/2023 21:05

She’s turning 11. Likes typical girl styles in some ways (make up, dresses) but equally at home in a Minecraft hoodie and jeans. Difficult to know what would go down well!

Have you considered going people watching beforehand so she can point out what kind of thing she likes?

New Look, H&M and River Island have teen ranges (11-16)

My daughter is a Tween and is into sports wear at the moment. She's kinda still between the stages of younger clothes like Barbie and Minnie Mouse attire but more into clothes from Sports Direct and M&M Direct. She got her first sports bra a couple of weeks ago as for a 10 year old she is well endowed. Also make-up and hair products. I don't know if any of these suggestions are helpful. Good luck!🤞

Mintie from Mint Velvet do some love pieces. As do Reiss.
Angel Face have great accessories for example a junior Chanel inspired bag and jacket. (My DD has these and loves them).

My daughter likes sporty stuff and tie dye. She loves Hype hoodies. Her current fave is a floral slip dress over a t-shirt, looking for all the world exactly like me circa 1995

I have an eleven year old. She loves crap from Shein, jeans with holes in them, Nike air max 90s, ear pods, earrings, Kate Spade stuff, Pink from Victoria Secret and is currently dementing me for a Victoria’s Secret tote bag 🙈

Janedoe82 · 08/04/2023 21:29

Yes- mine appeared with a pink satin slip dress and white t shirt on Thursday- she went shopping with her teenage sister and friend.
Primark is also a favourite for tat. Fake plants etc

Janedoe82 · 08/04/2023 21:31

She hates anything ‘babyish’- sequins/ unicorns/ rainbows/ primary colours a big no. Also nothing twee sadly.

UnsureSchool32 · 08/04/2023 21:37

My 11 year old is deffo hoodies and sports leggings.

short T-shirts but deffo no tummy on show. Claw clips and headbands. Not interested in make up etc

we don’t have a phone yet trying to get to 12!!

mini rucksacks from Claire’s

It totally depends on her own individual taste I've a ten year old and we've found Zara fabulous this year for clothes for that age group. We went in last week and there was tons of stuff she loved especially jeans. And it was all very fashionable without being inappropriate. It was the most stress free clothes shopping experience I've had with her in ages.

SE13Mummy · 09/04/2023 00:17

Dungarees are popular with the 11/12 year olds I know, especially the ones from places like H&M that do a wide leg fit. Oversized hoodies or sweaters are also popular too.

AssumingDirectControl · 09/04/2023 01:00

Thanks, there’s some good suggestions here and I think the mint velvet leggings are definitely her style, but it seems like the best way forward us going to be taking her shopping so she can choose rather than me buying something and getting it wrong! Thanks 😊 some good suggestions for a starting point though!
