I have bought a Topshop blouse from a charity shop today. I don’t know what era of a Topshop it is ( I am happy to post a pic of the label if anyone wants to date it) but the quality imho surpasses the quality of high street clothes today. It’s lovely thick cotton and has a covered button. I know other people miss it too and just wondered if other people search out old Topshop pieces. I have a lovely Topshop dress which. I bought at a charity shop too that I love and is from the Topshop of old.

I have quite a bit from TopShop that I still wear, including a pair of wide leg black jeans from the Unique range in about 2006 which I had on last weekend.

I think the oldest things are a navy cotton dress and a military type jacket which both still have the white labels in them. I'll have a look when I get back.

Potatobum · 08/04/2023 22:09

I’ve got a lovely parka that I got from topshop with vouchers my work colleagues gave me for my 30th. I’m 43 now and still reach for it.
I’ve also got a lovely big leather weekend bag that must be 20 years old.
they sell on asos now, don’t they? Will it make me feel old and depressed if I have a browse?

Festivemoose · 08/04/2023 22:35

I’m still wearing a duffle coat I bought from topshop about 15 years ago. I could never get rid of it.

Darhon · 08/04/2023 22:40

I have a boutique black silk, scarf neck dress, a boutique striped t shirt, a pair of moto jeans and a pair of shoes that are still in good nick and which I have had for almost 10 years if not more. Some of it was brilliant quality for the price.

Niftythrifter · 08/04/2023 22:43

I’ve just remembered I also have a lovely parka jacket with badges on that I bought in a charity shop. The weather is getting better so it will be time to dig it out soon! It’s got the same label as my top.

Not for me but my DD (20yo) used to persuade me to buy her loads in there

Joni jeans
A padded jacket that she's had for over 6 years (50% off on Black Friday and a genuine sale as she;d been stalking it )
Many of the cute little tops she has when I check the labels -TopShop

And TopMan TShirts for my adult DS , really good quality cotton, nice collar

DS tends to buy in H&M , DD like Urban Outfitters (God how I hate that shop Shock )

MermaidEyes · 08/04/2023 23:08

Did they do shoe’s as well? I remember getting a pair of biker boots from there that I loved so much around 1997. Not sure if they were a concession.

They definitely did! I had lace up biker type boots I bought from there, probably around a similar time. Wore them until they fell apart!

I loved TopShop in the 90s. Very rarely came out of there empty handed. It was a sad day when my local one finally closed. I have a couple of bits from charity shops including a pinstriped shirt that I love. Also have a couple of Laura Lees for TopShop sugar skull dresses that I don't wear any more but still can't bear to part with.

TopShop, Bay Trading, Miss Selfridge and Pilot - ah those were the days.

SocksAndTheCity · 08/04/2023 23:13

I still have a couple of pairs of TopShop shoes and also a lovely azure blue bowling bag that I must dig out asap.

Does anybody else remember the makeup line? I don't think they had it for very long, but I had some amazing bits including a metallic purple nail polish which I used so much I had to keep thinning it out with remover until it finally dried up altogether.

yepthatsmyname · 08/04/2023 23:55

I still have my Take That jewellery from Topshop.

Never forget 😂

VanillaImpulse · 09/04/2023 00:18

I loved Topshop! It was always the highlight of a visit to London. I look at Oxford St now on street view and it looks shit full of American candy stores.
I still have a few Kate Moss dresses that I also don't fit into! Grin

MyBloodyMaryneedsmoreTabasco · 09/04/2023 00:28

I also loved TopShop. My first proper visit was for my first school disco in 1986 - my mum gave me £20 to go into town and I bought (from TS) a long white skirt and cropped peach top. Wore it with white flat slingbacks and lacy gloves. My hair was crimped. Snogged the y8 hunk.
Shopped there frequently until it's demise. Was bemoaning the death of actual shops today, I hate buying clothes online.

Whathappenedto · 09/04/2023 07:01

Oh my god, I miss Topshop so much. The one in Birmingham was amazing and had one of those Japanese sticker photo booths that was The Coolest if you were 14 in 1999. I have had so many amazing clothes from there, and yes, the makeup! And their shoes were always good.
I still buy the odd bit of 'vintage' TS on Depop or Vinted.
Anyone remember when the Oxford Circus branch opened there was a huge video screen that played music videos and it seemed really modern and cool. Or maybe I was just a bumpkin.

My hometown had a Topshop and I still remember the thrill of going into town on a Saturday and being able to buy a top I'd seen in a magazine. I loved that top! In the early 90s they had quite gothy clothes and I've still got some velvet dresses and crinkle satin full length skirts that I can't part with. The fabrics and construction was realy good, I bought pure silk camisoles in the sale for not much. I probably stopped buying from Topshop in the mid 2000s, after that it didn't reaaly appeal, but I wore some tops from that era until they wore out because I always managed to look good in them. I was really lucky to find a beautiful dress in a charity shop sale, it has a Topshop label that I think is probably from the 80s, it's pure cotton & boned and I feel like a princess it 😊

nickdrakeslovechild · 09/04/2023 08:44

I was just saying this to someone! I still have some of their make up, they did some fab chunky lipstick crayons. I also have about 5 or 6 of their real leather jackets. They also did really good basic tshirts and vest tops in lots of colors.

FinallyHere · 09/04/2023 09:01

I think I got a matching top and skirt from TopShop in the late 1970's

My parents were visiting from overseas, for a wedding, staying with friends in Henley, who recommended Reading for shopping.

My slightly punky TopShop outfit in soft horizontal bands of purple more than compensated me for the ghastly Laura Ashley brides made outfit foisted on me.

Looking back it does seem odd how such two very different outfits were considered appropriate for very different occasions. Only ever wore the Laura Ashley once, no twice, second tip with some fake blood 'embellishment for a fancy dress bride of Dracula party.

The TopShop outfit I wore until it was threadbare.

Yes, clothes were better quality then. They were also much, much more expensive, not really the throwaway, fast change industry we know these days.

shutthewindownow · 09/04/2023 09:24

Top shop and Tammy girl were the best

Mumped · 09/04/2023 09:27

Old Topshop was the best. So much variety in the Oxford Circus branch. It was my number one place to go and get a last minute ‘going out’ outfit in the 90s/early 00’s. Happy days.

itssquidstella · 09/04/2023 09:34

I really wanted a Kate Moss tea dress and I’m still sad that I never bought one.

I shopped there all the time in my late teens/early twenties. 2006-2008 was their (and my!) heyday.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 09/04/2023 09:35

I couldn't afford TopShop until it seemed past its heyday, unfortunately. I do remember loving their boyshort pants, though. I had millions of pairs of those.

I do also have a slubby boyfriend cardigan from there from 2010. I still wear it. It's seen me through an MA, two long-term relationships and two pregnancies!

itssquidstella · 09/04/2023 09:38

That label looks no earlier than mid-00s, possibly 2010s. 36 used to be a 10 and 38 a 12, then at some point vanity sizing intervened and 36 became an 8.

17CherryTreeLane · 09/04/2023 10:14

I loved old top shop! I'm nearly 50, and I still wear a gold pleated skirt from there. It's lovely and heavy, and fully lined in navy. I get loads of compliments when I wear it, and people are shocked when I say it's from top shop.

Mumped · 09/04/2023 10:21

Even up until about 10-12 years ago their black leggings were the absolute best quality for the price. Thick, stretchy, indestructible, didn’t fade in the wash. I still have a pair from when I was pregnant with DD 15 years ago (only wear around the house now, but still impressed they have lasted).

The quality changed abruptly though and they were then extremely shit!

Yorkshirelass04 · 09/04/2023 10:23

I worked there in the early 2000s and was obsessed.

Re shoes, they had a Faith shoes concession until about 2003/2004 and then rolled out their own shoe range. I loved Faith as well!

Lisad1975 · 09/04/2023 22:27

Love love this thread!how I loved Topshop so much .shopped in there when I was teen till my 30s . Loved the moto jeans in every fit and vest tops and going out clothes. Still have some items stashed.A ankle length fitted long jacket in deep red with feather boa collar and another jacket with matching skirt also have a pink bandana/scarf which literally tied across the boobs .Those were the days ! Faith was another fab shop for shoes.

I worked in Top Shop in the late 1990s and those Faith shoes were absolute tat! We had so many returned that had dropped to bits practically the minute they came out of the box.
