Silk/Satin Pillowcase

User1706 · 06/04/2023 19:13

Would anyone recommend a silk pillowcase? I've been toying with getting one and wanting opinions on if you've really noticed improved skin and hair? Has anyone tried a satin alternative and are these just as good?

Noticed they do them for toddlers too, which I would snap your hand off for if you can convince me he'll sleep better 😂

Absolutely notice a difference in my hair. I can't stand sleeping on cotton now. I'm a silk diva

Lennybenny · 06/04/2023 19:17

Lilysilk on Amazon. Silk top and cotton bottom. It means the pillow doesn't slide around.
I have mixed hair. I've used cheap satin for years but I upgraded to silk when I started to take more care of my hair. Definitely worth the money!

Tomkirkman · 06/04/2023 19:17

I use them. Tbh satin and sil are great.

But for my hair I prefer a bonnet. Helps keep blow dry in shape longer than a pillow. I only style once between washes.

I have noticed a difference in my skin, but I have also changed up my skin care so not sure how much the pillow impacted that.

Helendegenerate · 06/04/2023 19:20

I've used satin pillow cases for years. Never rest my head or hair on anything else.

BigUpTheOxfordComma · 06/04/2023 19:21

I have noticed better condition in both my skin and hair (fewer creases around my eye/cheek area, especially).

The only faff is handwashing and air-drying twice a week, as I can't afford a second one to rotate!

I had a complete silk bed set and it was absolutely luxurious. Bugger to clean though and eventually "died" as a consequence, but while it was new it was outstanding and I felt like a movie star.

Now, why didn't I think of that? I end up with mine all over the place.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/04/2023 19:32

DD started with a satin one but upgraded to silk (well the back is cotton) when she saw an improvement in both hair and especially skin. It's even better with the silk so I think I might need to invest in one too.

Helendegenerate · 06/04/2023 19:43

I invested in three a few years ago. Different colours and they cost around £15 each but are still as good as new. Excellent quality.Always have a clean one ready.

Sofitella · 06/04/2023 20:13

I tried one, bastard to clean, made no difference and died very quickly

thegrain · 06/04/2023 20:14

I've got half silk half cotton. Worth the cost

thegrain · 06/04/2023 20:15

Silk better than satin

cathyandclare · 07/04/2023 08:58

I get them off Amazon and because I'm lazy always machine wash- they last several years but eventually fray at the zips. I always pack one when we go away too.

pavillion1 · 07/04/2023 08:59

bamboo cotton from M&S.

This! I have been using these silk pillowcases for 3 years and it has made a real difference to my fine, prone to frizz, hair.

whatausername · 07/04/2023 17:27

I posted on here about them and got the impression they weren't worth it for my hair type. But i'm a sucker and tried one anyway. My hair is now much smoother and easier to brush. Switched back to cotton for one night when the silk one was awaiting a wash. The difference was immediately obvious in the morning!

IconicKitty · 07/04/2023 18:43

My hair is noticeably less frizzy. I slept on a cotton case the other day and my hair was horrid in the morning after getting used to silk.

They aren't cheap but so worth it. M&S sell them for around £30 and you can get them on Amazon for around the £25 mark. I wouldn't bother with satin, only silk.

Pringleface · 07/04/2023 18:47

I got one because my hair is very thick and tangles easily. The silk pillowcase really helps stop it matting.

User1706 · 07/04/2023 19:20

Silk top cotton bottom sound brilliant hadn't even thought of the slippage hopefully my thin-yet-lots-of-it hair will finally be tamed...

Washing machine on the hand-wash setting with tesco hand-wash stuff and then I dry in the airing cupboard. They dry really quickly.

Hersetta427 · 07/04/2023 23:49

I have one. It I have curly hair - also sleep in a silk bonnet (which DH hates). Don't know about skin effects but certainly reduces frizz for curly hair.

Marcinon · 07/04/2023 23:51

Don’t they make you sweat especially in summer?

LaviniasBigBloomers · 07/04/2023 23:54

I got silk with a cotton back for Christmas and to be honest, probably wouldn't have said I noticed the difference - until I went to stay with a friend for a couple of nights last week. I can definitely get two days out of my (very fine) hair if I sleep with a silk case, my skin is less crumpled and its also lovely and cool to sleep on.

LibbyL92 · 08/04/2023 00:05

I recently got one a few weeks ago from Snuggy! It’s gorgeous, And feels so lovely to sleep on!

No silk is the best fabric for temp regulation
