Shoe crisis for difficult feet -help!

Hi all,

Does anyone have any good recommendations for shoes to go with summer work outfits?

I have tricky feet to shop for: wide, with high arches and arthritic toes, so can’t wear flats or anything which requires your toes to grip, and I also don’t suit stiletto heels. Trainers sadly not formal enough for work.

I get by with boots in the winter, but summer is fast approaching, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Lace up shoes with orthotics inside.

When you say flat, how flat can you manage? Is the heel of day a brogue enough? If so, a tan brogue can look summeryish so would see you into warmer weather.

What have you worn in the past - can we find a version of that?

Flats and orthopaedic insoles to support the arch and toes?

Would something like this work?

What about a mid heel -1.5- 2inch in a block heel rather than a stiletto - in a Mary Jane style. Very on trend and the strap across would help with stability?

Hi op. Have a look at the Vionic brand.

I've lusted after a pair of these (Church) for years but even at the sale price they are too expensive - they come in a lower heel version too. They remind me of my childhood Clark's sandals but in a good way!

Seems to be some copies in John Lewis or Russell & Bromley at better prices

If you like the style, search for "fisherman's sandals" or caged sandals

Or have a look at Moshulu, I have wide feet and they are very comfortable

I have same issues. Look at Sole Bliss, Calla, Sargasso and Grey.

Thank you all for some brilliant suggestions; I will get looking at the links!

Sadly I don’t have great-looking ankles or calves, so have struggled with shoes with straps round the ankles. Brogues might be good if they fit properly and I don’t have to grip, although might not work with knee length dresses; a bit heavy?
Thank you all once again; will report back once I have found the dream shoes 😀

I have wide feet with ridiculously high arches and very sensitive skin. Slip on shoes of any kind fly off as my feet can’t grip, and even a hint of rubbing blisters me in a few minutes. It’s fun! Grin.

Have you tried a slingback style? A low or mid block heel for stability, slingback strap to keep the shoe on, and a wide fit. This style is quite popular at the moment.

A low or mid wedge with strap might also work?

I don’t like the look of Mary Janes on me, but I’ve seen them look good on other people.

I do tend to wear flat slingback styles (cheapo ones from ASOS in wide fit) to work in Spring BUT I literally put them on and then take them off when entering/exiting the building. Trainers for my commute!

People are wearing heavier shoes or boots with dresses.

If you can do the laces on brogues up tightly enough you won’t be gripping them with your toes. I can’t think of anything less grip requiring anyway.

Pavers can be OK.

Chewbecca · 06/04/2023 12:13

I frequently wear hotters and geox for the same reasons OP. Sometimes Gabor.
I tried some fisherman's cage shoes the other week - ouch. Didn't get round my foot.
Hoping to treat myself to some Sargasso and Grey for my next formal wedding!

KirstenBlest · 06/04/2023 13:02

Try Fitflops, Skechers and Hotter.

Hoppinggreen · 06/04/2023 13:10

Look at Skechers Bobs

I have the lower version in black
worn once- the most uncomfortable shoes
all church shoes take a bit of wearing in but these were intolerable
