Prom dress, help!

My daughter has her Y11 prom this summer. I just started to look for her outfit by googling Prom dresses ...... help! where do I start? JJ's House, Lulus, Stacees, and that's just the start! I've no idea if these are any good or will it be one of those 'what I thought I'd bought/what I actually bought' situations? Where should I be looking? I think budget would be around 100, is this enough? Thanks very much for your suggestions!

DD got hers from JJ 's house. We got three to try first, which is a good service. Ordered a dress and it was delivered on time. Beautiful fabric, sewn nicely. DD adores it. Apparently their trust pilot score is poor but our experience has been perfect.

We ordered from Stacees and I couldn't fault them. We did do the one where you put your measurements in and it's made to fit. It was perfect.

Vinted

Sellers are usually really good at measuring for you.
Lots of unworn dresses for sale, due to COVID cancellations.
You might be able to buy a quality label for your money, rather than a cheaper Chinese import.

We went to David's Bridal in Westfield. They only have branches in Glasgow, Birmingham and London (2). Their U.K. website is crap but the US one is helpful. you have to make an appointment to try on dresses at the shops though.

We got dds from JJs house. It arrived quickly, was true to size and looked beautiful. Dd wore the dress and she would be able to wear it again, it survived the evening and also survived going through the washing machine. I’d definitely recommend them.

Wow, thanks everyone, very helpful and reassuring. I'll check out all the suggestions.

We found a local shop that sold and hired prom dresses. We have hired one for around £150 which includes tailoring it to fit properly (no idea how that works!)

They we’re super helpful and knew what would suit her by looking at her. It made it a stress free experience.

good luck!

I'd avoid Stacees unless you're willing to risk your money. They are based in Hong Kong so do not honour UK mail order protection law. There is no cooling off period. You cannot return items (unless. possibly, if they're faulty). They will not refund you if you don't like the dress or if it doesn't fit. They will offer to send you a new one at a very reduced price! Or if you really don't like the dress, you can haggle and they will send you a partial/paltry refund. So if you can resell the dress yourself there's a chance you might get some of your money back, but at a lot of extra hassle.
