Any other suggestions to protect scalp from the sun?

I'm currently awaiting the results of a biopsy for suspected melanoma on my scalp, and have several other questionable lesions too. This is in no small part due to the fact I've lost so much hair over the last 10 years -it's hereditary alopecia so there's nothing much I can do - although hoping that the HRT will slow the shedding.

Problem is I literally look like a potato in hats - DH didn't believe me so last summer I tried on literally every hat at the french market stall (believe me there were loads and LOADS) and then grudginly agreed with me.

I can wear a bandana tied at the back of my neck but don't always want to - what else can I do to protect my scalp from the sun?

Also, any recs for scalp SPF? I've only used the malibu and now defunct superdrug ones, they're really greasy. I know that covering up will be best but if I can find a good spray I can use it going to/from work rather than having to cover up my wavy hair which just ends up with flat frizz.

Aveda do a spray in product that my daughter and I use which I find helps. It's not heavy duty, but doesn't leave hair sticky.

In countries like India and Thailand you see many women walking around with umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun. Might sound daft in the UK, but maybe something to consider?

Honestly, the best thing is to find a hat you can at least tolerate as it sounds like you have a lot of sun damage already and I'd be worried about your face and ears. I can't wear a small sunhat or bucket hat, but a wide brim hat suits me better, and tbh as I am very sun sensitive I have to put up with it anyway. Or a UV parasol would do the job nicely.
IME, scalp protectors are greasy and not good for everyday

Sorry to hear about your hair loss and imminent biopsy results. That really tough for you OP Flowers

I’m with CMOT. You really need a hat. You need to go on a hat quest, French market offerings be damned.

This is my beloved Australian hat. So good that I have two: one battered one for gardening and the other one for everything else. I very kindly allowed my friend to wear it last summer when she was squinting into the sun in my garden and she immediately ordered her own one when she got home.

Obvs lot of other styles on that site. The Aussies know their sunhats.

Nothing can compare to protecting yourself physically from skin cancer, though - if a potato without MM is too much for you, what about wigs? Head's covered, hair's perfect.

Other than that, something like a dry spray for oily skin could work - like LRP's Anthelios invisible anti shine spray.

Thanks - depending on the removals/scarring I have I may end up in wigs anyway - but I'll have a look at those hats
