As a size 16/18. Am wondering about it for a cocktail type dress.

I had been thinking clashing for shoes etc, maybe orange or red? With some sort of clutch bag? Not sure why sort of look to go for with hair, currently have sort of between chin and shoulder length bob with undercut

The second dress is so dated and blah. It’s a non. Awful. No, I wouldn’t wear that. I like the first pink dress. Silver blocky scrappy heels and a silver padded clutch. Dangly earrings.

Go for it!

MysteryBelle · 01/04/2023 04:44

Strappy not scrappy! 😀

dudsville · 01/04/2023 04:51

The first one is more current with the possibility of being edgy and could be a lot of fun to wear. The second one is a safe, classic with the possibility of being fine, but not fun to wear. Imo.

MaximumPleasure · 01/04/2023 05:08

Sorry but both dresses are ugly. The first one is very cheap looking and messy. Get something that is a midi and in a natural fabric.

Hoolihan · 01/04/2023 05:56

The first one looks bad in the photos but actually pretty great on the model in the video. Fabric in the video looks heavyweight and less shiny. Could be worth a go - I've got a jumpsuit from NFD and it's fab.

Second dress is very boring and the length/neckline dated.

Gotafaceon · 01/04/2023 06:15

Love the first one. Would style with a colour like purple or maybe turquoise bag and shoes.

I thought it looked worse in the video than the static pictures. It made the material look even more cheap and man made.

Well I disagree with everyone else! I love the first one - it is more current. The second looks like the faux vintage look that was fashionable in about 2008

Yes this is exactly what I think!!

I've got a never fully dressed dress in the same colour/style for a wedding this year and going for orange bag and heels Smile

IhearyouClemFandango · 01/04/2023 07:33

Ok, I’m uncertain on both 😂

Will keep looking.

I think you'd need to try the pink one on, it'll either look amazing or awful. It's practically sold out so it must look good. The orange I e is completely sold out. The video makes it look like a completely different dress. More structured.

Madamecastafiore · 01/04/2023 07:48

I've ordered stuff from there before and sent it back, looks b cheap both off and on the hanger.

The green dress is nice.

I so agree. I think the age of most Mumsnet posters is showing on this post😂🙈. I have seen some of the other posts about fashion and clothes and fashionable isn't what I would call the choices. I'm 36 and wouldn't be seen dead in the second dress. But I guess it depends on age ect. The first dress would seem out there to most over 40 I guess.

Snoozinandlosin · 01/04/2023 08:37

The first one is definitely more fun and the second much more safe. I would also be drawn to the first one and like a PP said clash it with red… or even orange.
BUT I have a couple of Jaspre skirts from NFD (this is basically the dress version) and there are some problems with them. They are polyester (tolerable for a skirt) and they are really hard to sit down in without showing the world your knickers. I end up wearing cycle shorts or snag chub rubs under mine to protect my modesty (and I’m not especially modest).
All That being said I own two because the style is really forgiving with the tie and fabric around the tummy and gives me an amazing waist. You could achieved a really similar look with a floaty blouse of your choice and a Jaspre skirt (or any of the many cheaper copies).
Not sure if that’s helpful

sunglassesonthetable · 01/04/2023 08:40

Love the pink dress!

It's fabulous. Doesn't look like a dressing gown to me. That's a wrap dress.

And I love the idea of red or orange shoes.
Sounds very contemporary and colour blocky.

sunglassesonthetable · 01/04/2023 08:41

The green dress looks a bit dated to me.

PickleMcPickle · 01/04/2023 13:13

The pleats around the waist of the second dress won't flatter anyone.
Go shopping OP. There's something out there that'll be perfect.

OldHouseLover · 01/04/2023 13:39

I agree with PP that the second dress is very dated looking & despite being 53 I would never wear it.
The pink one is a far more contemporary shape though due to my colouring I couldn't wear that pink but that all depends on your colouring.

I love the idea of clashing heels & also second the suggestion of looking as eska shoes.

Life's too short for staid & conservative. Wear things that fill you with joy!

Totally agree about the pleats. They draw attention to the tummy area.

I don't like either dress. There are so many other choices out there, just widen your search. I'm sure you'll find something that suits you and isn't £££.

IhearyouClemFandango · 01/04/2023 14:08

I’ve been trying to find an excuse to buy some Esskas since last year 😂

MaltedCow · 01/04/2023 14:11

Oh definitely not the second, reminds me of something my mother in law would wear. I quite like the first, and like the idea of orange shoes to contrast.

Notcoolmum · 01/04/2023 15:38

Def get some esskas. I think orange would be amazing with the first dress. But if splashing on esskas I'd get a colour I would get plenty of wear from.

IhearyouClemFandango · 03/04/2023 21:02

I've seen these in Monsoon which look nice, not sure if it is just the bright colours I'm attracted to though

Actually maybe too casual for a cocktail dress

Agree with gold jewellery, a chunky necklace and a bracelet or stand out ring.

The dress isn't my thing but not sure why people need to give their opinion, you asked about styling specifically.
