I cannot have laser as too many white hairs.

I’ve had it. It was absolute agony. I have a high pain threshold but it was horrendous. My eyes used to water streams of tears.

And… it didn’t work… sorry.

greenspaces4peace · 31/03/2023 15:20

I’ve had it and was fine. Very effective. I had my monobrow zapped and bikini line cleaned up.
you need to go regularly at first.

Deathraystare · 31/03/2023 16:39

Ok! Two very different results!!

I've had it, but needed multiple sessions on chin, where the growth was more hormonal.

On other areas though it disappeared forever after just a couple of blasts of each hair. Overall it was successful - and was my only permanent choice really as most of the hairs were blonde.

Tribollite · 31/03/2023 17:00

I didn't find it very painful except just under the nose, that hurts.

hopeishere · 31/03/2023 17:00

Very painful and it didn't work.

Namechangingagain111 · 31/03/2023 17:04

Yes, I find it really painful on my upper lip (and more painful depending on the time of the month) so take paracetomol & ibuprofen and also use tattoo numbing cream.
It's definitely working though !!
I think like most things, it depends on how good the person doing it is, so see if you can get local recommendations (my hairdresser recommended the woman that she was using)

Cleethorpes · 31/03/2023 19:58

Not painful. It worked but had to have LOADS of sessions.

Purplepepsi · 31/03/2023 20:06

Worked on some but still have to wax / pluck the rest. Also painful and had loads of sessions!

Mixkle · 31/03/2023 20:38

Very painful, take painkiller first.

I’m having it on my hormonal chin growth. £80 for 40 minutes 😭 I’ve had 8 x 40 min sessions so far and the hair is growing back weaker and more sparse but I am far from clear. I think I’m going to end up spending £1-2k on it.

The lady who does me says a lot of people don’t keep the needle in long enough because it’s so painful and that is why it fails. I dunno if she is right.

I have it on chin because I have a mix of dark and blond hairs. It's painful so I only go once a month for 10 mins. Emla numbing cream from the pharmacy is over the counter and helps along with pain killers. I've been told that I don't leave numbing cream on long enough - I think I should leave it on for an hour beforehand (not just 20-30 mins), then it might make session less uncomfortable. The over the counter Emla tube from pharmacy is tiny, but in the past (when arsed) I have got a larger tube on prescription from GP. I've been having the electrolysis for about 3 years and the area is much clearer although still a little way to go. I'm sure it would clear alot quicker if I had more than 10 mins each time!

Had it a few years ago, and it doesn't seem to have worked long term. It's possible that the technology has moved on, and is better now, and maybe it depends who is operating the equipment, but I have a couple of crater pores that seem to have been the result of it.

PauliesWalnuts · 01/04/2023 09:42

I have a really bad beard due to PCOS so I’ve been going for six years now. You really have to be in it for the long haul. It does hurt but I take ibuprofen which makes it less painful.

chilliplant634 · 01/04/2023 09:46

I had electrolysis on my face to get rid of laser induced hair growth. It worked really well. I must have spent 1300 over a 1.5 year period. It was well worth it. It takes a while for all the hair to come through depending on what part of the growth cycle it is in. So initially you have to go regularly.

I think it also really depends on the skill of the operator. I had two that weren't that good and the third lady I found was really experienced with not just the technology but also my skin type. She did a great job.

My mother also had electrolysis on her chin as she sprouted hairs there after menopause. All gone.

Bumblebeelane · 01/04/2023 14:27

My home purchased one was useless. But salon lasering has been worth every penny. I'm dark haired and needed to shave legs and under arms everyday if I wanted to be smooth and hair free (never did shave daily as couldn't be arsed with that faff!). Also used to have bikini area waxed every couple months.

I have had my lower legs, bikini line and under arms lasered. It wasn't painful at all for me. They alter the heat setting so that it's warm but not burning. It isn't cheap but no longer need salon waxing trips or rush job shaving for spontaneous swimming session with kids! I love now that my underarms have no dark "shadow" - something I seemed to have even immediately after shaving before lasering.

I might need a blast if hormone levels change nearer menopause but I am so glad I've done it. I would suggest checking what equipment the salon is using..... different levels of quality out there .
