Shiny face help!

Despite using a primer for oily skin and Estée Lauder doublewear or L'oriel Infallible my skin is shiny after an hour and it's driving me mad.

Has anyone got any miracle primers and foundation recommendations?

I have very oily skin too OP. No miracle potions here I'm afraid but watching with interest.

Niacinamide is meant to be good but I find it makes mine worse.

Do you use tretinoin? It helps with oiliness. Try skin and me or dermatica for a prescription.

I personally wouldn't wear a thick foundation like double wear with oily skin, it'll just slide off. Bit of concealer and powder touch ups. I like Clinique powder for mattifying

Pickle2023 · 30/03/2023 18:14

Yes I have a prescription from Dermatica, it's for melasma and has tretinoin in it, works really well for my melasma but sadly can't say it's done anything about the oiliness ☹️

I was wondering if a bb cream or a lighter foundation would be better. I don't particularly like doublewear as it feels too thick but stick with it because it was good at covering my dark patches however now they are much better maybe a lighter one would be best

Stick to a lightweight, oil-free, Matte foundation.

You can also buy a pack of those thin paper face blotters that do a really good job of soaking up the oil/shine throughout the day.

I'm 60+ and still have oily/combination skin (but few lines and wrinkles, if that's any consolation)

Pickle2023 · 30/03/2023 18:54

It makes sense to try a lighter foundation so will give that a go, havnt tried blotting papers so I'll do that too.

I'm 41 and getting a few wrinkles, mostly on my forehead but I put that down to constantly frowning and not age 😂

Same here, niacinamide just breaks me out

Sympathies I did used to have oily skin. Maybe ask dermatica to up the amount of tret? It should make your skin a bit drier really. Definitely get an oil free bb cream or similar, I find them hard to find and virtually everything breaks me out but do some experimenting. I actually just use the nars radiant concealer on the bits that need it and then powder

GulfCoastBeachGirl · 30/03/2023 19:10

These two work for me, both from 'it Cosmetics':

CC+ Oil-Free Matte -Full coverage spf 40

CC+ Nude Glow - sheer (but buildable) coverage; more of a dewy finish, spf 40, wide range of shades so easy to match skintone.

I finish with a dusting of their 'bye bye pores' pressed powder.

Thanks for the suggestions, I shall take a look!

I dust my t zone with the blot powder (pressed) from Soap and Glory.

MrsCharlieD · 01/04/2023 18:46

Are you using a setting powder? I'm 39, I use the elf power grip primer, Nars foundation and concealer and I set with the Huda beauty loose powder and then use the beauty crop glow milk setting spray. I think you need a setting powder.

ExpatInSlavikLand · 01/04/2023 19:08

I also use Boots' oil blotting papers. They don't stop my skin from becoming oily (nothing I've ever tried, bar the hormones during my pregnancy and most of the medication I take during IVF treatment, stops the excess oil), but they do get rid of the shine.

My scalp's also very oily and hair therefore greasy, but at least washing my hair every morning results in mostly nice-looking, albeit flyaway, hair 😕

I dust my face with a pressed powder, I don't use the sponge that comes with it I just use a big brush and go over my face after foundation. I use Estée Lauder double wear pressed powder.
Is that a setting powder or should I be using something else?
