To stop bleaching my hair

I'm 38. I've been bleaching/dyeing my hair for 25 years Blush

My partner bleaches the roots then I put a toner all over.

I'm sick of it - it takes ages to do and is so dry after it's been bleached and takes weeks of conditioning treatments to look healthy by which time I've got roots again.

My roots look dark now (dark blonde/v light brown) with a few greys. I've put toners on before without bleaching first and no matter how 'ash' they are supposed to be they go brassy on the roots.

I don't want to go drastically dark, I don't want people to see I've got greys (not many!) and I don't want to go to the hairdressers more than twice a year.

Any advice? Grin

How about a balayage? It’s softer and less bleach.

I went from full bleach to full high lights and it looks much better condition. I found a very good colourist and had to grown out quite a lot of bleach before highlighting. It took about 2 or 3 highlighting sessions to fade that roots line, so took about 9 months to look really good. No regrets but more expensive as I used bleach it myself too. I have bob/shoulder length hair.

I went from bleach roots to balayage a few years ago, my hair was way better but I never really enjoyed my new blond, it wasn't as radical and pearly white as before. And finally when the pandemic hit, I decided to let my hair grow naturally.
I'm now a natural medium brunette and absolutely love it, I had no idea my hair had such a nice texture and colour.

I love the look of a baylayage but worried how the roots will look when they start to grow and there's greys scattered through it.

I think that would mean going to the hairdressers more than twice a year which is realistically my limit. But thanks for the reply.

Do you have greys though? I think I'd defo do baylayage and then grow out if it wasn't for the greys
