Rains - anyone tried coats / jackets from this brand?

I like the look of their rain jackets. Great range of colours and they look cool. They're at the pricier end of my budget so wanted to get some reviews first. Would you recommend them? If it helps, I'm 43, 5'8, size 10-12, a bit on the busty side. Ta

I have a raincoat by Rains. It is definitely waterproof, folds up nice and easily, and I bought the size which can fit over my clothes and denim jacket/light jacket so I can wear it just as rain protection . I don't feel particularly stylish when I wear it, but it definitely does a good job. I did think I might feel 'cool' in it, but maybe it is down to the colour choice (I went for khaki). (am early 50s, 5'3" if that helps).

Yeah, they're a bit dull IRL, Stutterheim are definitely a bit more interesting but also more expensive. I ended up buying one from Maium, a Dutch brand, they're made out of recycled plastic bottles, waterproof and some interesting design details that make them practical on a bike.

Sold by quite high end shops around here. I got a thin raincoat in the sale. On the right person it could probably look quite cool. Just looks like a raincoat on me! But I hadn't heard of them until I admired a friends puffa jacket and she said it was from there.

I bought one after seeing it on a woman in the checkout queue. When it came the colour was nothing like on the website - I wanted “stone” but it was actually “mushroom”, so very beige rather than pale grey. That was bad enough but on examination of the label it was showerproof not properly waterproof and it absolutely stunk! Whatever chemical it was treated with or packaged with stunk the house out so it went back.
No problem with delivery or return.

I have a long parka one which I use when it's raining and I need to go out, it keeps me dry and is a nice loose fit, it's not particularly stylish but am definitely glad I've got it.

I’ve got a lovely grey/sliver puffer - I was looking for that elusive warm yet waterproof coat. It really is. I did have a red anorak style one that I liked but it was a bit less stylish. Good quality though. Puffers are amazing!

I have two and absolutely LOVE them. Both years old now and 100% waterproof with hoods! What more do you want?

Fedupwitheveryone · 23/03/2023 18:26

i have one - knee length khaki. I do feel somewhat cool in it - despite the fact i'm a curvy size 16. at least it looks unisex and not twee like a seasalt/joules one.
It is just a raincoat though, so does get sweaty and clammy if you wear it in warm rainy weather. Also doesnt' come with any toggles on the hood strings to tighten when needed - i added some from another cheaper coat which have been useful.
No issues with it letting water in - and i've tested it in very heavy rain.

if i needed a raincoat, I would buy it again

I bought DP one - just a short classic raincoat in khaki, and he gets compliments on it all the time despite it being a pretty standard item. I was surprised it was completely unlined, however. And I bought it at a big discount on Country Attire during a sale, though it was also reduced on other sites... so don't pay full price!

I do quite like the look of their metallic finishes (Steel grey, or metallic pine green) for myself but, despite living in the NW, can't justify multiple waterproofs.

CrispThief · 24/03/2023 10:35

I have one in an unusual finish. It is beautiful and very waterproof and packs down very small. No inherent warmth but not sweaty which is good. I found the unisex sizing huge and I'm tall with a big chest. I think I manage to make it look quite bag-lady rather than the understated chic it was hoping for in an owner but I'm learning to embrace my ability to do that to clothes.

Thanks all, sounds like they're definitely worth investigating
