Actually wide running trainers

MrsFionaCharming · 22/03/2023 18:58

Can anyone recommend a brand of running trainers that does wide fit?

It needs to be proper wide fit and not just a brand that’s slightly wider than others.

Thanks 😊

361s do merraki in wide which I swear by - not cheap though ..

GandTtwice · 22/03/2023 20:58

If you are anywhere near Liverpool Natterjack Running have a shop which sell Brooks. They also have a machine where they can assess your gait and recommend the right style of trainers for you

BrassicaBabe · 22/03/2023 21:09

I was wearing Hoka Wide. Got on well with them. Then I found out that with some fancy relacing I didn't need Wide. Just less pressure on my instep. Don't know know if that's any help?

samthebordercollie · 22/03/2023 21:19

I'm size 41 feet, but when I had my bunion (which was huge) I ran in men's size 43 Brooks Ghost for road and Hoka Speedgoat for trails. The Hoka were really comfortable and plenty wide enough contrary to what another poster wrote. Men's shoes are always wider with a larger toe box.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 22/03/2023 21:21

New Balance do wider versions of their shoes too

weasle · 22/03/2023 21:22

Agree Brookes or Altra Mens. It's not just the width but the more natural foot-shaped toe box.
Asics very narrow and 'pointy' style toe box I found.

Selford · 22/03/2023 21:26

New Balance do a D fit - don't know if that would be wide enough for you? Beware of buying them online, some retailers aren't very clear if you're buying the normal (B fit) or wide.

londonmummy1966 · 22/03/2023 21:34

I've just been to a spacialist shop and been through the whole gamut of ladies wide fit and mens. Hoka and Brooks wide fit are a D width. Tha means that they aren't wide enough for me in a ladies fitting. I've actually ended up with hot spots on one of my feet where the foot was hanging over the sole slightly due to the width issue. Hoka men's wide fit work (just). New Balance do an extra wide fit as well as a wide fit which is an E or an F and that is plenty wide enough.

Worth mentioning that I took a 6 in a wide fit and a 5.5 in an extra wide.

Asics also do some models in an extra wide fit but the shop didn't have them in my size.

I would really recommend going to a specialist shop to try lots of different wider fitting styles on.

Blueuggboots · 22/03/2023 21:57

I've got hideously wide feet and I have a pair of Hoka's.

Ypsilanti · 22/03/2023 21:58

I have wide feet and get on well with Brooks Ghost. As others have said the men’s versions are generally slightly wider so if the women’s wide fit are out of stock (or you are annoyed by the boring colour range in the women’s’ wide fit), give them a go if you’re 6.5 or bigger.

Sounds like Brooks are the ones to try. Are they stocked in actual shops anywhere?

Most running shops sell Brooks. Up n Running, Sweatshop. If you are near Sheffield I'd recommend Accelerate in Attercliffe.

TriceratopsRocks · 22/03/2023 22:14

I also recommend Brooks. I think they list stockists on their website, but if you can't find a local store, their staff are very helpful on the phone. I have bought online and returned and it was fine.

Greenestgreen · 22/03/2023 22:17

Good thing about Brooks if you buy from website is that you have 90 days to return even if worn. I wear D fit. Only downside is large, wide-fitting shoes tend to come in dark dreary colours 😟.

MrsFionaCharming · 22/03/2023 22:22

I’ve found a shop that stocks them 40 minutes away. It’s in a town with a lot of cute cafes, so at least if I don’t get any trainers I’ll get some cake!

This feels a little ridiculous, I’m not in anyway a serious runner - I’m planning to start couch to 5K again post-pregnancy.

Brooks wide fit are super wide and my Glycerins are like running on clouds

Ricco12 · 22/03/2023 22:25

ASICS and Nike are narrow shoes - most definitely not a brand you want to buy.

You need to look at Altra with a wide toe box or if you don't want zero drop then Topo Athletic are wide toe box without zero drop.

They are known brands that are wide.

Wombats23 · 23/03/2023 10:57

I have massive feet. Brooks are ok, Merrells are good and Altras are amazing. Like wearing a glove and super-comfortable. Lots of ultra runners use them.

Rollercoaster1920 · 23/03/2023 11:03

It may not just be the width, but the shape of your foot too. I have wide, square feet (first three toes are the same length) and new balance wide are good for that. Altra too but I like a bit of heel stack. Nike, Adidas etc cut across my 3rd and 4th tows.

Good luck with the fitting. Most ships have limited wide fit in stock.

Any runner IS a runner! And you deserve to be comfortable 😊

Yitus · 23/03/2023 16:54

I agree with Brooks wide fit too. Despite having wide feet, I can’t get on with men’s trainers as they’re too big on the heel - I think that my foot shape is basically like a flipper!

I wore trainers that were too narrow when I first did C25k and ended up with a painful injury that lasted a few months, which I think was due to that. I started it again wearing the Brooks Ghost wide fit and have no injuries at all over 3 years later - I now run 5k three times a week.

OxanaVorontsova · 23/03/2023 17:06

Another vote for Brooks

CalmDownBoris72 · 23/03/2023 20:23

I have a wide foot and on cloudflyer and Hoka Bondi both work well for me but they feel very different. I size up by 0.5 size in the On shoes.

I’m surprised by the ASICS recommendations as I find them narrow

MiniMaxi · 23/03/2023 20:33

Nike Air Pegasus

Minecraftfield · 23/03/2023 20:41

Previously I've had men's Brooks, this time I've got ladies Asics - one and a half sizes too big on the recommendation of the shop. I was very skeptical but they are very comfy!

I'll definitely be trying wide fit in the future though, didn't realise they existed and I prefer ladies colours to mens
