Wedding make up for non make up wearer - what do you suggest?

I am getting married in two weeks. Small do in local very nice farm to table gastro pub. I will be wearing a simple high street wedding dress.

I don’t usually wear make up, only a No7 tinted moisturiser, but feel I want to wear some on the day. I like the my face but better look.

What would you recommend on the basis of the following:

  • good skin but can look a little tired under eyes
  • skin is more yellow/olive tones - I prefer peach tones to pink for lipstick/blush (on the rare occasion I’ve tried it)
  • hazel eyes, mid brown hair
  • I don’t like eyeshadow but fancy a brow kit (brows maintained but natural looking)
  • I am 40

Maybe a light foundation, cream blusher, brows and mascara, and a nudish lipstick/tint?

Thank you!

I am a non make up wearer. I got a make up artist to do my wedding makeup. No buying makeup I wouldn't use again and no worrying about doing it right.

Sorry, should have said: having someone doing it in the day is not possible due to some complicated logistics. Plus, I like the idea of trying to wear it a little more afterwards.

If you've got two weeks can you get to a counter beforehand, they can recommend what will look nice and show you how to use it. I went to the Mac counter in John Lewis recently and she gave me lots of good advice and recommendations, I bought two items but she wrote down the rest. I rarely wear much make up but like what I got!

Why not book in for a makeover somewhere - tell them what you want. They can give you some tips on application.

I'm also not a massive makeup wearer but I booked in at the no7 counter the morning of my wedding & they did a really good job. Obviously not possible for you but you could get an appointment at a convenient time & practice the look?

I'd go to a Bobbi Brown or Laura Mercier counter. They are trained makeup artists (or used to be) and both are pretty good at the less is more look.
Congratulations!

I hadn’t even thought of going to a counter. Can’t do morning of wedding but could try at the weekend, at least to get some tips.

Try a counter and get a few things you're likely to use again. A good mascara, a lipstick or tint and some tinted moisturiser should give you that 'like you but better' look. Have a lovely time!

If you like the no7 moisturiser I would go to a no7 counter personally as they should be able to help with a colour match easily I'd imagine.

I would get:

Under eye concealer
Foundation without SPF if you are having flash photography
Powder
Blush
Lipstick/tinted lipbalm
Mascara - in brown possibly if you don't want it too dark.
I know you said no eyeshadow but with foundation instead of moisturiser I think eyes need something.

Personally once foundation is on I think extra makeup is needed to make the look less flat as your natural skin colour will show through less.

Fluffodils · 23/03/2023 06:01

Also how long do you need it to last for? All day or is it a short wedding? You might want setting spray.

cherrypied · 23/03/2023 06:12

I wear

No 7 hydroluminous foundation
Brow pencil (revolution micro something)
Mascara (no 7 stay perfect)
Blusher Chanel
Powder Laura mercier

I also wear liner on my lower waterline as i can't not but apparently this is a dated look ( I tried to not and people asked what was wrong)

For my wedding day I got a Chanel lipstick and a perfume.

I also advise a brow wax and tint.

TheOpeningActofSpring · 23/03/2023 08:02

I only need it to last for an afternoon/evening. Wedding at 3pm and for cocktails and dinner. I can never make lipstick last an hour though.

Good point about flash photography, I didn’t know that.

I might go down the No7 route as I already have a couple of bits and it’s a price point I feel happy with. Although looking at the other brands they do look nice.

I am getting a pre wedding haircut and colour at the weekend so will hit Boots/John Lewis after.

I would go to a Bobbi brown counter. There make up is aimed at the natural look.

sunglassesonthetable · 23/03/2023 08:20

I think Bobbi Brown do a kind of wedding make up thing at their counter. They are popular because of their mantra 'like yourself but better' or it used to be.

Housewife2010 · 23/03/2023 09:27

I'd definitely book an appointment at a Bobbi Brown counter for a wedding makeover. I went for mine and they were excellent. You can explain what you want and have it as natural & polished as you like. You didn't have to buy all the products there. I bought the eyeshadow and lipstick after the lesson. They gave me a sheet with everyone written down that they had used on me.

GettingStuffed · 23/03/2023 09:50

I did my DDs for her wedding, light foundation, a light pinky blush, heading towards neutral. And a pale pinky neutral lipstick.

Her MOH was insistent that she needed eyeliner and mascara. She declined.

It was just enough to stop her looking washed out in her photos.

Mcmcmcmc · 23/03/2023 12:15

I suggest booking a makeover at a Chanel counter. The fee for a makeover is similar to Bobbi Brown but I think their products (eyeshadow, blush) are less pigmented (which is good when you are not used to makeup daily) and look sophisticated when applied. The price of the makeover will not cover the cost of products needed for a full face, so you can buy what you like from there (I suggest lipsticks, blush or eyeshadow) and get the rest from other brands.

TheOpeningActofSpring · 25/03/2023 17:16

Went to the Bobbi Brown counter. Not for the complete wedding makeover, but she matched a light foundation and colour corrector for under eyes, together with a lovely ‘my lips but nicer’ lipstick which also looks nice as a simple blusher. She applied it all and talked me through it. Very happy, and I will definitely wear it again after the wedding as it’s so natural looking. Thank you everyone!

Sounds like a great outcome OP.

Have a lovely, lovely day. I am sure you will look perfect.
