Going to a wedding soon, I’ve just bought this dress, however we have now received official invites. It states: dress code, formal. No white dresses.

Now I would never wear white to someone else’s wedding, but formal? Can someone advise? Is my dress suitable or not?

the dress is probably 3 inches longer on me than the model, it’s not knee length. I’m not worried about showing my backside off, although now it’s been mentioned I’ll double check.

I think based on the reply and what another guest is wearing it will be ok, but I have been well and truly put off by it now. I may keep it for my holiday.

It's a shame you've been put off your dress OP, particularly if it was by the incorrect assertions on here about what "formal" meant.

It is styled casually in the photo with a straw summer hat and bag.
Work with a coloured rather than a tie belt, less country picnic type hat and bag it will be absolutely fine.

Based on the bride's reply I think your dress would be absolutely fine.
It is a pretty summer dress.

Not formal at all it's holiday wear and the hem is see-through or something weird
