Powdery perfume

Can anyone recommend a perfume with strong powdery notes?
I have googled powdery perfumes and Guerlain's Insolence looks promising, however there's no place nearby where I could go check the actual smell and I'm kinda reluctant to order it without trying... Does anyone have it?

Vivienne Westwood Boudoir - not sure if it’s still around or has been discontinued

TizerorFizz · 21/03/2023 13:09

@toucaninjapan
Geurlain has a Tokyo shop. La Boutique Guerlain Ginza 6. They have others on their website too. Are you in Tokyo?

I think when people say they get a headache from perfumes, I wouldn’t trust synthetic or dupe perfumes because these are mostly the culprits. Cheap perfume rarely has classy ingredients as it’s produced for a price point.

Insolence is a new (2017) perfume and described as “sultry and voluptuous” by Guerlain with fruity, floral (violet and iris) and powdery notes. It’s far from my favourite as I find it a bit overpowering, as Guerlain intend it to be! So if you can, track down a shop. Have fun trying them out.

Another vote for J-lo glow.

toucaninjapan · 21/03/2023 13:21

Thank you @TizerorFizz !
It does look sort of like a usual kind of a pop-up store they have in shopping malls, but I guess I'll try my luck (or better I'll call them before visiting) to check if they have any Insolence I could try. I did see some reviews saying that's the kind of perfume that might give migraines to some people Shock

There are these too. Guerlain list 24 outlets but some are in hotels I think. However one of these I’ve attached is a department store.

Thank you @TizerorFizz ! Those are the ones in the shopping malls. I think I might have time to go to Ginza next week, but I'll call first to check if they have the perfume.

Boucheron.

flexigirl · 21/03/2023 14:02

Harajuku lovers baby is a lovely clean powdery scent . So is jlo glow ( the original in the Misty bottle ) I love them both

Boogismyname · 21/03/2023 14:05

Airport's duty free often have a good supply of Guerlain. I put loads of Insolence perfume on me them.

Shrubb157 · 21/03/2023 14:06

Prada-Candy is very powdery

Boogismyname · 21/03/2023 14:06

I spritz perfume on my clothes to avoid them smelling any different on my skin.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 21/03/2023 14:27

Powdery is often iris, if you look for that you'll be on the right track. PP said Prada Infusion d'Iris, it's softly powdery and is lovely.

cupidsabsolutepsyche · 21/03/2023 14:31

Chanel 19 Poudre is also beautiful, but not always available. Looks like it might be available via u-buy.jp ?

xogossipgirlxo · 21/03/2023 15:39

I find Flowerbomb powdery. And Chanel Mademoiselle. Need to try out J.Lo next time, as one of PPs recommended.

Sorry for being dense, but... what does 'powder' smell like..?!
(I wear Guerlain's Mitsouko, which I LOVE. Would anyone describe that as powdery..?)

Yes, I think this is powdery! Along with prada iris which is what I came to recommend. Anything with iris in it smells powdery to me.

Some of the others than have been mentioned I really like and find quite clean smelling but not specifically powdery, like Lovely by SJP.

Narciso Rodriguez Poudré is a nice powdery scent!

This! It’s like dusty marshmallows, but it’s not girly, it’s a grown up smell. Slightly rock and roll. It’s one of my favourite perfumes.

AmethystMoonShine · 21/03/2023 20:31

Miller Harris Powdered Veil - you can order a sample from their website for a couple of pounds.

toucaninjapan · 27/03/2023 05:36

A little update: so I went to try Insolence as it was no1 on my list, and at first I thought it's absolutely hideous (sorry), but after about 30 min on my skin it started to smell really nice. It is indeed very powdery, not overly strong (contrary to most reviews I've seen), however not 100% what I wanted, so I am still thinking about it, but it is very lovely scent indeed. DH hated it though.
While I was walking around smelling different perfumes, I have suddenly remembered how I used to love Salvatore Ferragamo's Signorina and I found it to smell sort of a "powdery rose", so I ended up ordering that for now while I'm looking for other suggestions mentioned on this thread and deciding whether to order Insolence or not.

SquirrelsAreStinky · 27/03/2023 06:07

Oh thanks for the update OP, I've made a note of lots of perfumes on this thread and I'm going to go on a sniffing session instore 😅 Glad you found something you liked, I often revert to long lost favourites too!

I don't know if it's what others would call powdery but Calvin Klein Be always smells fresh and clean on me, always reminds me of a cross between baby powder and washing powder! I get so many compliments when I wear it. I need to try some other perfumes again for a change as I've just been wearing this for ages now.

AmethystMoonShine · 27/03/2023 07:05

Powdered veil by Miller Harris is currently in TKMaxx at a great discount if interested.

rileynexttime · 27/03/2023 07:14

Lovely to get an update @toucaninjapan and @AmethystMoonShine thank you so much for that .

TizerorFizz · 27/03/2023 08:16

@toucaninjapan
Did you find a perfume shop? I have the Ferragamo one you mention. It’s hugely reduced on outlet sites. I like it though.

toucaninjapan · 27/03/2023 08:31

@TizerorFizz yes I was quite surprised to see current prices for the Signorina! I suppose it's because the scent was released 10 years ago or something? I could only find it online though. As for Insolence, I have tried it in the Ginza shop you mentioned (dropped by during my extended lunch break), many thanks for that :)
