How can I stop it clinging to my legs?!

I don't usually wear this fabric and hope when it's washed fabric conditioner might help but what do I do now?!?

You need a Slip.

Is there an M&S within driving distance?

MollyMunster · 18/03/2023 10:05

Hairspray your legs?

Do you have any of those dryer sheets? Rub them all over the dress and your legs, they work temporarily.

surreyisik · 18/03/2023 10:05

Are you wearing leggings? If so, could you change into one with a different fabric?
If not, a silky moisturiser might help?

QuertyGirl · 18/03/2023 10:06

Matalan, John Lewis and Next sell them.

Get a flesh toned one if your dress is white

lipstickwoman · 18/03/2023 10:07

I have a slip but the dress won't let me wear it... dips down at the back and up at the front. Hairspray on legs is doable.

Take scissors to the slip. Sew up rough edges

lipstickwoman · 18/03/2023 10:07

No drier sheets.. have abandoned the drier 🤦🏻‍♀️

I'm sure hair conditioner would work just as well as the dryer sheets, rub that on your legs?

Abraxan · 18/03/2023 10:12

We have an anti static spray that works well.
Got it from a supermarket.
Anyone about who can drive and buy one?

MumToTooManyBoys · 18/03/2023 10:12

Moisturise your legs even if wearing stockings

I didn't even know this existed... no supermarkets nearby

Post a plea for local friends if anyone has a half slip. But hair spray on tights will help.

If the dress is washable, dilute some fabric conditioner, turn the dress inside out, and use a spray bottle to lightly mist the inside then dry with a hair drier on cool. But try a less visible area first unless the dress is lined

TitInATrance · 18/03/2023 10:22

Run the dress through a wire coat hanger (pass it through the middle against the wire). Conducts the static away.

lipstickwoman · 18/03/2023 10:24

Ok so I have leave in hair conditioner spray which I'm going to spray on my legs and the inside of the dress ( a little). It's lined so should be ok.

I'll take some scissors to my slip and won't be wearing tights so fingers crossed it will help.

Thank you all so much.

Ooo and I'll do that too if I can find one

Wire hanger def works

Singleandproud · 18/03/2023 10:29

Ground it on something?
If no wire hanger maybe try a balloon if you have one about

TerrysAllGoldGlisters · 18/03/2023 10:30

I just use regular body lotion, get some on your hands, run it over your legs or wherever the dress is clinging, repeat as necessary. On top of tights if you're wearing them.

You poor thing! THIS is correct. I learned this trick from professionals. Moisturise your legs over your stockings. Don't panic!

Have a great day!

featheryfancy · 18/03/2023 10:43

Dampen your hands and run on the underside of the dress

NatashaDancing · 18/03/2023 11:16

What a clever lot you are. Apart from always wear a slip , I didn't know any of these tips.

verylowbattery · 18/03/2023 11:21

You need to discharge the static with a coat hanger or some kitchen foil.

If it doesn't completely work then you need to create humidity between you and the dress to stop the cling. Dampen a cloth and run it over the dress on BOTH sides. If the static starts up again at the wedding go to the ladies and do the same thing again. Putting moisturiser on your legs helps too.

ThisIsWhyWeCantHaveNiceThings · 18/03/2023 11:29

I saw on the internet (so must be true) that if you attach a safety pin to clothing it will absorb the static. Worth a shot?

lipstickwoman · 18/03/2023 11:40

You're all amazingly helpful.. thank you so much.

My legs are moisturised to just the right side of oil slick, I've used foil on my dress (OH has wisely just raised his eyebrows) and spritzed leave in conditioner on the lining.

I've found a very short slip I'd forgotten I had so will add that.

I need a gin.
