Advice on wardrobe update and where to shop. Just turned 40

I have recently turned 40 and it has been surprisingly difficult, I am feeling really quite frumpy and un put together.

I have booked myself a haircut which is definitely needed and I’m trying to up my skin care game.
I would also like to update my wardrobe.

I have some decent quality dresses, slim fit jeans, shoes, boots and bags but I’m really not very good at pulling outfits together.

I have spent a while trying to work out what I think I need to be able to make my wardrobe work and I have listed them below.
I was wondering if people could recommend good shops to look at for these items? Or if I’m missing anything?
My budget is healthy but not huge.

I guess I am aiming for a fairly classic look but I am also drawn to the boho, I don’t work in an office and spend quite a lot of time on boats and by the sea.
I am 5’3 and a size 8-10 if that helps.

Any advice much appreciated

Smart/nice T-shirts and vest tops
Nice linen shirt x2
Wide fit jeans x2
Good quality jumpers in beige/cream/navy/black
Nice spring jackets - denim and smart (trench coat?)
Ballet flats

Thanks for that link @summerfinn I've just taken the test and I am a soft classic. Off to see what she recommends I should wear.

OP, as others have said, M&S have really upped their game recently and it's well worth a trip to one of their larger stores to try stuff on.

H&M are very good for linen shirts & linen t shirts. I love the v neck linen T's & have bought them repeatedly over the years. Plus the slightly slouchy look of the stripy linen t shirt. I've seen a lot of H&M denim being worn on Instagram too but haven't tried it personally.
I also adore the feel of Vildnis t shirts as they are a fantastic lyocell/linen mixture & an eco friendly range.
Wrap of London are brilliant for T shirts & cotton/linen knitwear & for good quality Jumpers I would also recommend Cos or Arket.
M&S denim is also ok & their trench coats have been cool recently.
I've seen a nice looking short khaki/navy trench on a lot of people.

I'm also the same age and height. I like M&S for trousers because they have the short length options.

I also buy a fair bit from People Tree, Thought and White Stuff and lots of smaller shops that sell a range of mainly European brands - love Wardrobe 44 (look them up on Instagram).

Thank you for all the great responses.

I have started gently with an M&S order and I have been a bit boring and bought a couple of T-shirts and a nice looking denim jacket from Fat Face which is generally my go to shop.
I am now working my way through the other recommendations. It’s fun and I’m really looking forward to trying to put some new outfits together. I will undoubtedly be back for advice about that soon!

While I’m here can I ask if anyone has Veja trainers and if they are comfortable?

Also, I’m tempted by the Fairfax and Favor Kitty trench coat, it’s the length and colour I was looking for, but I’m not sure if it will be worth the cost. Any thoughts?
(I have some other bits from them, some boots, deck shoes and a couple of bags but I’m not an obsessive fan and don’t have any of their clothing).

thanks again
