Waterproof shoes ideas

What footwear do you wear when it rains. I've realised only my wellies are truly waterproof. Does everyone wear walking boot styles? As the weather gets milder what then? I hate having wet feet!

Anyone?

Dms are waterproof

TheRookie · 15/03/2023 14:01

What terrain are you walking on? How often? How far?

Most walking boots are waterproof but they aren't fashionable if you're bothered about that.

I have some Adidas leather trainers and although not waterproof, my feet never get wet

Sandysandwich · 15/03/2023 14:40

Normal boots- they are black lace ups, maybe leather the water doesnt get in.
Plain chelsea boots- also maybe leather.

I'm not standing in puddles but normal leather or fake leather is fine in the rain

I have several pairs of boots from this range. They are magical, my feet never get wet or cold, and the water doesn't mark them. Expensive. But I have found them on auction sites as well, one pair was only £30.

You can waterproof your shoes with products like like carbon pro or nikwax. Needs reapplying every so often but works well

My Blundstones are bombproof. I guess if it was hot out I might wear trainers? My suede New Balance seem to be pretty watertight despite not being sold as waterproof, I'm dreading having to replace them. Both go with just about everything and are very comfortable.

Oh, and you could try waterproof socks. I wear them for walking on the beach in the winter, they're warm and dry.

Depending on the season and occasion.... Dubarry boots, Bareback Equestrian boots, Aquatalia boots, patent leather loafers, goretex trainers, flipflops and crocs. All waterproof!

Joules wellibobs, there's are like little walking boots but made of rubber. Comfy, totally waterproof, easy to get on and don't look hideous. I got mine on vinted new for £20

Like these, not the most awful looking

I have country boots from Dubarry and Fairfax and Favor which are waterproof. I also have Boudica’s from Fairfax and Favor which are cosy and waterproof.
I also have some Joules Wellibobs, some Sorel boots and some Merrel boots all of which are waterproof.
(I used to live in a very wet place…)

Ankle length wellies
Grenson nanettes
Doc martens

If you buy shoes from Pavers you can get them professionally waterproofed. It's only about £4

lingmerth · 15/03/2023 23:27

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Aquatalia do some beautiful stuff but way out of my price league.
I realise none of my trainers or boots are waterproof ( apart from some Wellibobs). I was thinking about when I go shopping for a few hours and it's raining and I get that seeping wet sensation through my footwear.

Normal leather boots stay waterproof if you polish them with old fashioned leather polish.
If you want something for e.g. dog walking, and aren’t bothered about them looking pretty, look at Cotton Traders walking shoes. I had some that lasted really well, were comfortable and completely waterproof. Example:

You can buy waterproofing stuff for shoes/boots which is very good. I tend to wear leather country boots more than wellies these days (because I can't remember where I put them at the end of last winter) and it does a great job, I've been clearing a wet ditch of brambles and my feet are staying dry!

lingmerth · 16/03/2023 23:54

Waterproofing stuff actually sounds a good shout. Will have a look.

Muck boots, the Chelsea boot ones.

I had no idea such a thing existed. Wonderful!

crispinglovershighkick · 17/03/2023 20:22

Inkblue I hate the feel of sandy toes and sand in my shoes. Mine are neoprene (not sure if there are other sorts?) so probably not meant for many hours of wear. But they're weirdly cozy and comfortable, I love wearing them.
