My partner was previously engaged (for a very short time) he is now trying to sell the ring but unknown where to try sell it. Apart from Facebook & pawnshops does anyone know where this could be done? We have been to jewellery shops but none we have found will sell 2nd hand rings.
I have tried looking online but not much help. Hoping someone on here may be able to help 😊

In my city and I anticipate in most cities, there will be jewellers, some a bit old fashioned maybe, off the high street, ( not your Ernest Jones or H Samuels type) who have jewellery in their windows as “pre loved.”
Just keep doing your research because I’m sure there will be a business out there who can help.
You might have to send it registered post for appraisal if you can’t get there in person.

Alternatively, have it re-modelled into earrings or something different you would feel ok wearing if your chap is agreeable. There are jewellery workshops who will do that because I want a very damaged ruby ring repaired/remodelled, and have found a workshop in Wales!

As mentioned above independent jewellers but you'll get hardly anything for it. I'd try eBay.

I had a beautiful old engagement ring that I wanted rid of but was offered buttons for it at various jewellery shops. I left it in my jewellery box for a few years until I was having some custom work done and it went into the bag of "scrap" and was used for other things. More cost effective than buying gold for what I needed done.

I used to work in hatton garden for a few years in a pawn shop...all jewellers etc will pay pennies....the mark up on new jewellery is extortionate....sometimes 800%....sell it on ebay / vinted etc for a better price, shops will only pay scrap gold, nothing for stones unless large and high grade which is very rare.

To be fair, it doesn't really matter how long he was engaged for, it makes no difference to the value of the jewellery.

Is it a high value piece? Does he have certificates of authenticity or provenance for the stones etc if so? As has been pointed out it won't have much value being sold to a dealer for the most-part unless we are talking something particularly special.

I would try ebay, you can always put a reserve price on it, or otherwise ask on local community groups (facebook etc) if anyone knows of a local valuer who can advise him.

you could try Jewels by Grace who sell pre-loved jewellery including engagement rings or listing on Loupe Troop, although these are both US based. I dont have any UK recommendations sorry.

Also, given the unlikeliness of getting anything near original cost, would he consider keeping the stone and resetting into a necklace or other piece of jewellery at some stage?
