I'm not sure you can...if you bleach the hell out of it you'll still only get it up to the light yellow keratin then you could maybe tone it to a light silver but not white I don't think.

A hairdresser will hopefully come along in a bit!

I haven't tried it but look at Bleach London
On the website there's 3 bleach kits (Total /Plex and No-Bleach Bleach)

The No Bleach one looks the gentlest ( and grey hair is fragile enough)
Might be worth an email to them to see if it;s recommended first .

I;ve tried the shampoo/conditioners (Silver and Fade to Grey) didn't add colour but to get rid if brassy ends when growing out old dye ends .
I did a patch test on the Fade to Grey tiner but no difference so I didn't bother using
Re-Incarnation mask was underwhelming

Blue powder bleach and 40 volume peroxide will lift it totally, be careful as its strong, dont leave on more than 15 mins, repeat if needed....or use 30 volume peroxide. do not leave it on for very long as hair will end up like chewing gum ..probaly needs a toner after...loads on ebay etc and mix with 20 volume peroxide.

Last thing you want to do is put bleach on it. Unless you want yellow hair and bugger up the condition of it.
I've got grey\white hair. I nourish it when it starts to look unhealthy. It lightens up in the natural sun too.
Purple shampoo apparently neutralises grey even on natural hair. Which is what I'm trying to achieve. Grey\white natural healthy shiny hair.

Monty27 · 11/03/2023 22:00

I haven't tried purple shampoo yet. I thought it was for bleached hair.

justasking111 · 11/03/2023 22:03

I use a purple shampoo my hair dresser sells to prevent yellow patches on the white. My son says wow I'm a silver fox these days 😂

My hair dresser said queen Camilla does have hers bleached then colour put in which apparently thickens it. Because grey is a tone rather than a colour it's problematic.

earsup · 11/03/2023 22:16

I am only going by experience of sister and what she does...lets see if any professional hair dressers can post !

It's good to tone any brassiness . When I was growing out the tail ends of dye ( I used to use a semi-pemament one ) the Silver (its blue/purple ) just made ot less obvious till I culd get those bits cut

I cannot use it more than every 10-14 days because it is more drying and its quite messy !

My original colour is mid brown going greyer , I sometimes think "Oh it's not too grey" then I see a photo or my reflection , and <sigh> it is greyer

I got this one a few weeks ago , used it once already , ,y hair was really soft but I think I'd need to use it a few times to get any real colour difference .
I'm not looking for miracles , just t make it less blah .

I had grey hair (salt and pepper) which I had lightened to a light silver. It took 4/5 hours at the hairdressers and I’m nowhere near having white hair.

google white blonde as that’s what you are after. I would get a hairdresser consultation with a colour specialist to see if they think it’s possible to go that light on your hair or how many attempts it will take. Not an expert but I believe some hair lifts more than others and they will be able to tell you how warm (orange) your hair is - which will also affect how well it bleaches

Quveas · 11/03/2023 22:51

I actually have silver white hair. But it can get a little "grubby" with life, so I occasionally use Jerome Russell semi-permanent in ice white, which gives it a fantastic lift and sets it back to its natural colour.

Brassiness comes from bleaching.
I was brunette originally. Used to colour my roots brunette until it got to the point I decided to colour it lighter and lighter browns. In that hot summer of lockdown I threw the towel in and went naturally white. Eventually I had every bit of bleach cut off. I used purple shampoo at the time and it is messy and my hair felt brittle. The conditioner didn't help either.
I'm thinking of trying it again after long months of no sun.
I even bought a Liz Earle hair mask to keep healthy looking natural hair.
The jury's out at the minute.

I have silver/white hair. It is in perfect condition since it is 'virgin' hair - never been dyed.
Once a week I use a silver shampoo.

Two weeks ago an ex-hairdresser friend put platinum highlights in for me. This gave my hair a massive lift and I am really happy with the result - but - it is bleach no matter what colour you call it and although I am super happy with it I have to use the silver shampoo to stop the platinum from going yellow.

When I wash it now it does not feel silky anymore - because of the bleaching so I use a purple mask on it and leave it in for a while. I alternate between doing this and using a good conditioner or my hair will go blue.
I am really happy with my colour though - get complimented all the time and will do it again.
You only live once !

The Jerome Russell toners that I use do not contain any bleach. You only need bleach if your hair isn't silver/white to begin with.

ChaToilLeam · 13/03/2023 12:03

I grew out my hair during lockdown and had my hairdresser out in lots of fine white highlights to mix the new hair with the old dyed blonde growth. The result was really good but tended to get brassy at the ends with time. The best shampoo I found for it was a Wella blue shampoo but it was expensive! The L’Oreal purple shampoo is good and much cheaper. Once a week is enough.
