Having tried Vinted, I am sticking to charity shops!

I have been a second hand shopper since my teens (so three decades). I always stuck to buying in charity shops so I could try on or at least check for condition. But recently decided to try Vinted and got quite excited about the prospect of being able to find things that I actually need, as in a charity shop it’s a bit more pot luck. But I am now banning myself from looking on Vinted! Maybe I am just unlucky. Here is what happened:

  • new jumper, suspiciously cheap - arrives and has tag but clearly worn, and too small for me (£8 wasted)
  • sweatshirt I ordered does not arrive as seller sent me the wrong item by mistake - to be resolved
  • jumper I bought for my dd - £27 including postage - was meant to be excellent condition - clearly slightly shrunken so only just fits DD even though size bigger than she wears - I don’t think there is anything I can do as seller provided measurements but it’s just not in the condition I expected

Lesson learned but I am quite annoyed at myself. I think the problem is that some sellers are quite loose in their assessment of what is very good condition.

I love it! I’ve got some real bargains and had no issues whatsoever. It hasn’t happened to me but I’m not sure what the massive issue is if something turned up unwashed, no it’s not ideal but just wash it!

It's annoying when you bought something as "New without tags" that smells of smoke or perfume, etc.

I like Vinted. I've had very few issues so far - mostly of my own making (ordering something I can't fit into or just doesn't suit) but I sell on or donate.

Sizing can be an issue. The way they are logged means S, M, L mean different sizes in different brands. And I think the sizing issue does create genuine confusion with some listings.

As others have said, it's pretty good if you're looking for particular well-known brands. I've bought quite a lot of Alice Temperley stuff, including a stunning short wedding dress for £15. I also bought a beautiful sequin dress in a champagne colour from H&M for £20. I loved it so much, I searched and found another in black, equally lovely.

Still, it's not quite the same as going to your local charity shop in person and having a random rummage. I came away this week with 4 jumpers (two in merino wool, plus one Benetton, one Boden) and an H&M shirt dress all for a tenner - from a tiny community charity shop. Thrilled.

I love Vinted. This week I bought two immaculate Ralph Lauren button down shirts for £25 to bolster my WFH outfits a bit. They sell for £140 individually at John Lewis!

I sorted my return to work wardrobe after mat leave for <£50, saving the best part of £500.

I stick to brands I know and hunt for specific pieces and rarely take a punt unless it’s very cheap (a few quid). I try and look fairly frequently (sort by newest) as well priced, good condition, current clothes sell quickly. For popular brands, anything listed for longer than about a week is usually overpriced or poor condition.

I won’t buy unless there’s a photo of the size label. The sizing categories do my head in though as 12 is not a Large in the UK and vice versa.

I bought a coat off vinted last week. This is my first time using vinted. Seller told me she'd send it the same day. I heard nothing and then yesterday had to ask her if she'd sent it. She says she has just forgot to mark it as sent on the app. We'll see, I'm losing faith tbh, I would have thought I'd have received it by now 🙄

@PamDooove Inpost/Evri automatically update the app once sent. I think it’s only Royal Mail where the seller has to manually upload the sent receipt.

If she has sent it and not marked it on the app, you’ll get your money refunded to you in a few days! She’s doing herself a disservice.

She's used In post and I've been checking with them but it just says that she's been sent the postage label. Now she's updated on vinted it says it should be with me between 14th and 16th March. Just annoyed that she couldn't be bothered to send the parcel when she said she would. She l even said when I asked her some questions about the coat that she would send same day if I bought it 🤔

Ah okay, that means she’s only sent it today. Vinted automatically updates within a few hours when an item is dropped off to a locker/counter for Inpost. How frustrating for you!
