How to make my hair look less shit without heat

I am having a hair crisis! Recently got it cut and the only way I could style it that looked good was by curling it with my straighteners.

Unfortunately this must have really damaged my hair the few times I did it as the following day when I brushed my hair it had the texture of wirey cotton wool.

I'm trying not to use heat on it but if I leave it to try naturally, it's wavy (not in a beach wave type way, in a frizzy uneven wave kind of way) and it looks awful.

Does anyone have any miracle products I can try that might help it look less shit when left to dry?

I wash every other day as I have oily hair, the shampoo I use leaves it feeling lovely and soft but not sure if it's the best thing to use (I've read sulfate free shampoo is best?)

I've attached pictures of said birdsnest - this is after being washed and left to dry without any product in

Another suggestion for the heatless curl band, about £6 on amazon, go for the soft one rather than the hard rubber style as you can sleep in it. I love mine, my frizz prone hair loves it too, wash, condition, comb through a frizz ease serum leave until just slightly damp then twist in the band sleep and wake to lovely curls that last ages and drop to lovely waves on day 3 i wash my hair much less too.

My hair can be similar. I have managed it by doing the following

Once a week using the Phillip Kingsley elastizer. I used it over night. You don’t need to but I find it suits my routine better. Mid lengths and ends only.

I oil my scalp at the same time. People with oily hair can do this as well, you need to find an oil that suits though. I went through a few before I found one.

I use a leave in conditioner on the ends after I wash it, when it’s damp. Then every night I use a light spray leave in conditioner on my ends. Just a little. Wrap my hair in a silk bonnet.

I don’t get the frizz any more and my waves look like waves rather than frizzy and messy.

and if I do use heat, I always use a heat protector.

Thanks so much 😊 is there a particular leave in conditioner you recommend? I have a huge bottle of almond oil that I bought for my nails, could I use that for the roots? I must admit it feels wrong to put oil on my already greasy face but I use oil based cleansers for my oily skin so I should give it a try.

My sister, the lucky sod, just sprays her hair with some miracle spray (can't remember which one it is) and then leaves it to dry. She ends up with the most amazing wavy hair. Not jealous at all 😑

I've literally just ordered a Keratin treatment off Amazon, reviews are really good.

I have naturally curly/frizzy hair and never got to grips with CG method.

If it's any good, I'll report back and tell you!!

You could definitely try almond oil on your scalp. Don’t saturate it though. Just enough to give yourself a nice massage.

I use the kerastase nectar thermique. That’s a fairly good one. But I only use as dp used it for his long hair and had it cut off so had nearly a full bottle. I wasn’t wasting it lol. Olaplex 6 is the only olaplex product I like. The L’Oréal no hair cut one is a good budget option. Shea moisture is also really good.

I used Sol de Janerio one for an evening at the moment. Still deciding wether I like it. Ouai spray leave in is good, very light.

whats your budget? And I will put a list of my favourites

Lighter hair shows damage more than darker hair. I would do a keratin treatment then even without heat after showering your hair quality would be better and less frizzy or if you dont want to do a keratin treatment use philip kingsley elasticiser its a miracle in a bottle, leave overnight.

As recommended on MN I tried L'occitaine almond shampoo and conditioner and they are amazing and have added loads of moisture - I was despairing before that. I also use kerastase nectar thermique and then a bit of oil on the ends once my hair is dry

Donnashair · 12/03/2023 16:04

@salutsandy just reminded me. I do put oil in my ends when it’s dry.

Literally 2 drops. Not much. Same oil I use in my scalp.
