Cleanser for 40+ skin - no water

I need a new cleanser but I don't want to splash water on my face. I don't often wear makeup but I do wear sunscreen. Will micellar water do? I'm heading for 50, skin is drying out. Any ideas?

you could use a cleansing balm or oil and then rinse off with a warm flannel or muslin.

greenspaces4peace · 11/03/2023 04:56

I’m older and really like La Roche Posay foaming micellar water, but I wash it off with water.
I don’t find it drying.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 11/03/2023 05:41

I also hate splashing water on my face.

I use a sali Hughes cleansing balm which I rub into my dry face then a flannel which I get as hot as possible I squeeze it out hard so no drips then place on my face and gently rub off my make up with it.

I repeat with another warm flannel as it feels nice and then I'm done.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 11/03/2023 05:42

Then I put the cerave on which comes in a tub. Fragrance free and not greasy.

So1invictus · 11/03/2023 06:07

You don't need to splash water to remove any cleanser. A wet cloth removes the cleanser.
Micellar is OK for removing make up, but it's not a cleanser as such. It's a makeup remover and the way it works leaves an oily film on skin so you're better off cleansing that off afterwards or it can block pores. It's fine as a first step make up remover or once in a while as a quick fix, but it's not good for skin despite what its excellent publicists say.

Eyelashesoffire · 11/03/2023 06:58

Thanks everyone, I've got lots of flannels so I'll just use my normal cleanser. I really hate splashing water on my face. I had heard that about MW @So1invictus

I've been having some treatments from a beauty therapist, I always use a cleanser then a toner.
Apply cleanser to my face then wipe off with cotton pads then use the toner, the therapist said this is the right way to do it, the toner rebalances the ph levels in your skin, I don't wash my face very often, a couple of times a week I use a face wash, the therapist said this was too often and to just continue cleansing and toning

I rarely use miscellar water as they are all too dry for me and when I wear make up it doesn't get it all off. I prefer a cleansing milk or cream.

I thought micellar water was just a clever scientifically modified soapy water? I find it really cleans my skin, I sometimes use a balm afterwards as I like a hot flannel and the flannel is clean.

Ladyofthelake53 · 12/03/2023 05:07

I use baby lotion ir a cream cleanser wiped off with pads then tone

This is what I do. I find any washable cleanser really damages my skin. Micellar water is okay but not idea. The best one is the bioderma brand with the pink lid, but I'll always pick a cream cleanser over anything else.

Im finding it increasingly difficult to find cream cleansers, most seem to be wash off these days. I do sometimes use a wash off cleanser in the morning in the shower, i really like Nivea cream wash off cleanser for dry skin in the pink tube. Its really nice and non drying. My skins normal id say but most wash off cleansers leave my skin feeling tight, this doesnt. Micellar water is great for remiving eye make up i think

I'm currently using the Garnier rose cream cleanser and in the past I've used the Nuxe rose one too. Also when I was living in South East Asia I used a l'oréal one which was really lovely. I think it had lipids in or something similar.

BusterGonad · 13/03/2023 09:29

It was L'Oreal gentle cleansing milk.

Aphrathestorm · 13/03/2023 16:18

I use simple cleanser and wipe off with cotton pads.

I hate my face feeling wet.

I usually use their toner after.

If I've had make up on I'll use cotton buds and eye make up remover under my eyes first.

Body shop camomile cleansing balm is amazing. You get a better result with it if you do use a Muslin cloth to remove it with warm water but you could just use cotton pads etc.

salutsandy · 13/03/2023 17:36

Origins Dr Weil mega mushroom cleanser is amazing - just tissue off. I normally follow with the treatment lotion (they also do micellar in this range)

51 with dry skin here who thought she hated water on her face....until she discovered cleansing oil! Either Superfacialist or Simple, rub it in then take of with a damp flannel or muslin. My skin is now far less dry, irritated and spotty.

I LOVE Superficiality Vitamin C oil for cleansing 😍

I do mix it up sometimes with LRP Toleriane cleansing milk though - very soothing. I normally use reusable cotton cleansing pads.

I used to use a fantastic Garnier cleansing milk one - I think in a pale green or pale pink bottle - that stuff was cheap as chips, and brilliant!

I'm 46, I use Simple cleansing lotion wiped off with cotton wool pads, then I tone & gently exfoliate with Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2.

I've used this and it dries my skin out and gives me sore flakey skin.
