How is the cost of living affecting your beauty regime?

Is anyone making changes to their usual routine due to cost of living or would you rather cut in other areas first?

I'm no longer having nails done.

Hair is being stretched an extra week or two, although I am thinking about going back to usual as don't like having roots.

No botox. Not as much hair cuts.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 08/03/2023 07:35

I'm no longer getting eyebrow and top lip waxed 3 weekly. Doing it at home.

RunTowardsTheLight · 08/03/2023 07:37

Stretching out the time between hair appointments. I never get my nails done anyway.

PauliesWalnuts · 08/03/2023 07:37

I’m pretty low maintenance so don’t do injections or nails (no point - I’m a climber and allotmenter!).

I’ve had my longish mousey hair highlighted since I was 14, and I’m now 50 so going to give it a break. I’m having it all cut back to a bob to get the colour out and then I’ll leave it natural until after the summer. Not gone grey yet so that helps.

I’d rather starve than lose my PCOS beard electrolysis though.

Sparkletastic · 08/03/2023 07:58

I left Beauty Pie because of their ridiculous price hikes.

Shitfather · 08/03/2023 08:02

I never pay full price at department stores any longer. Buy make up from eBay. Found some fab bargains for high-end stuff. Never had facials or nails done. I’m due a haircut and color but will find a salon that needs models, so will have it for free.

No change here. I do my own nails, pedicures and waxing and still get my brows threaded at £6 a time by the Indian ladies in a local market hall.

Hair cut and coloured or roots dome every 2 months.

Facials and massages are still an affordable occasional treat.

Still using the same Superdrug/M&S/Neals Yard range of toiletries.

I have never had Botox or my lips/lashes "done" and it will remain that way.

My regime was always DIY apart from regular cut & colour, so no difference.

I've bought very few clothes this winter though, using the savings to cover ds' school ski trip. I wfh so hopefully it doesn't show. I couldn't go away for a week's business trip. I don't have a week's worth of warm business clothes any more.

Spottyheadband · 08/03/2023 08:17

I've stopped having botox despite it doing wonders for my migraines :(

Designforlifeismyanthem · 08/03/2023 08:18

I use Garnier’s facial sun screen instead of La Roche Posay which is a saving of around £10 per bottle.

I’m sticking with Clinique DDML though and buy it when it’s in sets.

LaBellina · 08/03/2023 08:31

I bought unused Dior blush online (as a ‘second hand product’) for half of the price that you pay for in the shop. I was lucky it was indeed genuine and unused but it’s a risk.

I have also delayed buying the Maison Margiela perfume I had my eyes on.

I don’t do lashes, nails or injections.

Stopped having nails done...was going 2-3 times a month. No more bimonthly facials. Hair ...roots every 5 weeks, cut every 10 weeks.

I go to the gym and have a weekly PT, prefer to spend on that.
I did spend £150 on new makeup yesterday but that will last a year.

Farmageddon · 08/03/2023 09:05

Like others I'm stretching my hair appointments to every 3-4 months instead of 8 - 10 weeks as before, also rotate between getting a full head and half head of highlights.

I've switched to Ambre Solaire SPF50 instead of the LRP as well because they are so similar and it's about half the price. I already buy from cheaper brands like Geek and Gorgeous and the Ordinary who focus on good ingredients rather than fancy packaging, so not much change there.

I've been wearing my glasses more on a day to day basis, and only wearing my contact lenses when I'm heading fro an evening out or something. I have daily lenses and they used to cost me a fortune.

Unfortunately I have recently developed a bad Reformer Pilates habit, going 2 or 3 times a week - I really love the classes and as a bonus may lose a few pounds and get my arse in shape for summer. But they are quite pricey - eek!

corriefan88 · 08/03/2023 14:47

I dye my roots in between salon appointments, never had my nails done. The one thing I am saving up for is tear trough filler because my undereye area has always looked knackered but it'll probably be months before I can afford it

Dianehb · 08/03/2023 15:47

I spend quite a lot on hair and beauty and I have not had to cut back at all fortunately.

I spend about £800 at the hair salon a year on Balayage. Maybe £600 a year on Facials, £400 a year on nails and £300 a year on eyebrows.

Make up and skincare is about £150 a month too.

I don't do Botox or Teeth whitening though.

So about £4K a year on hair and beauty in total.

LolaSmiles · 08/03/2023 15:55

I've gone back to my natural hair colour. When it looked like the cost of living was going up, I had a balayage done and it means I'm going 6-9 months between colours.

I swapped some of my makeup for cheaper options, some were good swaps and others aren't. If anyone has a good brown or dark grey mascara that is cruelty free and cheap then could you let me know please?

ibuymeownflowers · 09/03/2023 20:39

I buy stuff off ebay. People sell things from gift sets on there so my favourite moisturiser I can get cheap but in small jars.
