Rosemary oil for hair growth?

Hi all, as per title - has anyone used this? Reviews please? My hair is thinner than ever, I've tried biotin and taking multivitamins but to no avail (I will carry on with the vits anyway due to other benefits) and saw this advertised, but as ever, I'd like some real-life reviews, not just from teenagers on Tiktok with hair already thicker than a pony's mane. Thanks!

Watching with interest, I've just had some delivered.
My hair is very thin after Chemo and I was told this would work wonders!

I've used it in the past it didn't do anything for hair growth. It made my hair softer.

theginge · 07/03/2023 14:38

I've been using it for just under 8 weeks (mixed in with conditioner) and I swear it's made a noticeable difference. I've got lots of new baby hairs growing now and I'm not loosing hair by the handful at every wash like before.

It could just be me imagining it but I'd definitely say it's worth a try!

I haven't tried rosemary oil, but I've been using the Plantur 39 range (shampoo and tonic) for about six months and my hair seems thicker and stronger. I apply the tonic every night and use the shampoo once a week. It acts on the roots, so you have to use it for some time before the effects appear, but I started to find that my hair felt thicker and more springy after about three to four months.

I've been using it for a month or two, also a rosemary rinse made by simmering some stems for a few hours. I am hoping I see some tiny baby hairs in the sparse areas, not sure yet.

I've recently trained as an aromatherapist and this came up in our training. Rosemary oil is very good for promoting hair growth but it needs to be used correctly to see the benefits. It needs to penetrate the scalp and be left on for a little while. So mix rosemary essential oil into a carrier oil ( grape seed or olive oil, or whatever carrier oil) and massage onto scalp leave for abit and then wash your hair as normal. Probably need 2 good washes to get oil out. Try and do this at least once a week. Eg. It will not work in shampoo as that is wash on/off product
10 drops of rosemary per 10mil of carrier oil

kurnas · 08/03/2023 01:09

i think castor oil is better

Missymoo007 · 08/03/2023 08:13

Castor oil would be excellent choice of carrier, just started massaging this into my eyebrows from years of over plucking.

Also, essential oil industry is not regulated so need to careful of the supplier. Read the label to make sure 100% rosemary. I always look for latin name on bottle. Have seen bottles diluted with products to bulk it up. So I'm careful where I buy. And if I have the option to buy organic that's my 1st choice
Tisserand is a decent brand and sells in Holland and Barrett and they sell carrier oils too

Thanks all - will try, and report back

I am using chiltan pure rosemary oil and It is an aromatic essential oil that can be used for aromatherapy or applied to the skin and hair.

I was thinking about this last night. I’m going to try @Missymoo007 suggestion.

My hair used to grow really quickly but stopped

murgugug · 18/05/2024 15:43

I've tried it but do watch out a bit because essential oils can mess with your natural hormone levels. For me it triggered my endometriosis and it took me a while to work out what was going on!

No but I have the same problem. Ive been consistent in taking 1 ferrous fumarate tablet (210mg) every day for about 4 months now (i was beyond exhausted with terrible blood test results in a number of areas) and I am eating much more healthily almost all week (id say i almost view food as a necessary medicine now). I notice my hair is improving (not amazing but certainly better than this time 6 months ago. I was feeling so awful I didnt even realise how bad my hair was really). Im also using a shampoo called Dercos thickening shampoo which I like and which seems to help but i think the good food and ferrous fumarate are mostly what is helping me overall.
