I have so many skincare items I adore but I never feel like I've found hair care items I love.

I have really long hair (waist length), it's wavy and thick, easily tangled, dry prone (hardly ever gets greasy), tell me what shampoos, conditioners and other products you love. I like highly fragrant like herbal essence.

Also... What hair bobbles do you like? All mine are so crap.

Kerastase shampoo, conditioner and elixir ultime are the only things that de frizz my dry, bleached long hair.

K18 is very good. Many people prefer it to olaplex. But I use both, as they work in different ways.

Bleach London hair mask, argan oil and i use the curly telephone wire type bobbles. Shampoo ive been using Dove intensive repair shampoo prob full of silicones but i have almost waist legth thick coarse wavy hair and it smooths frizz

What’s wrong with silicones? They go down a treat on my hair. It’s all marketing bullshit to scare us and make us spend more. I would love to hear what is wrong with silicones on dead hair.

Weatherwax13 · 09/03/2023 01:17

I'd second the recommendation for K18. It's not cheap but it only needs to be used sparingly so it lasts a while. I never got on with olaplex.

i'm a curly girl and my recent anti frizz find is morrocanoil intense curl cream (now my hair is curly enough on it's own, this product holds the almost ringlets together) it keeps my frizz to a minimum.
much better than diva curl and more cost effective.

Colourwow coconut cocktail - smells lovely aswell as offering heat protecting anti frizz etc. I didn’t like the colour wow product linked above either!
And I too bought a full size Charlotte mensah manketti hair oil after receiving a mini in the Liberty box, it worked wonders on my long overdue a haircut hair but I’ve had it cut now and it isn’t offering me much in the way of a wow factor anymore. It’s also incredibly viscose and all drips off the sides of the stopper before you’ve squeezed it and is quite messy. But does reduce the static in my hair.

Some silicones don't wash out easily and can build up on the hair. It can reach a point of blocking moisture from getting into the hair.

But using a clarifying shampoo once in a while should sort that.

In other words just use a shampoo with sulphates (clarifying) which does a fab job at cleaning hair. All this demonisation of silicones and sulphates is marketing rubbish designed to scare us and make us pay more.

Arapawa · 09/03/2023 23:57

I have rubbish hair. Extremely soft and fine. I've tried all the shampoos under the sun. The worst for me are the sulfate free ones, so I think it depends on your type of hair.

Corcra · 10/03/2023 00:22

I second redken so soft and extreme products mentioned.
Ginger shampoo from the body shop is lovely.
I've recently started using voduz and loving it so far.

There are some women who avoid both because they don't agree with their hair. Very curly African hair can be very dry and fragile. Sulfates are too drying and since they avoid them, silicones can build up.

Rebel2 · 10/03/2023 01:24

@AgingDisgracefullyHere yeah I avoid both usually. Very fine (but lots of it!) fragile hair that wants loads of protein. It's quite cotton wool texture like sometimes

My faves are
Aldi volume conditioner for protein and it's silicone free
Jessicurl spiralicious gel
Curls n clouds volume spray
