Clothes for a 10 year old!

Windthebloodybobbinup · 04/03/2023 16:52

Can anyone recommend the best place to go for clothes for my ten year old? She's suddenly not into anything 'cute' no animals rainbows, unicorns etc. no pink or anything 'babyish' also not keen on anything 'girly' no dresses or skirts. My go to brands- next/Boden/m and s/not really offering anything for this phase! Thanks

I'd recommend h&m. Good mixture of clothing choices + basics, without being too grown up

New look can be good, sometimes the styles are a little mature for a 10 year old but you can certainly get leggings, tops and jumpers. Maybe try sporty brands - good for plain leggings and tops. My daughter is very much in the same phase but a little young for the teen stuff still ☺️

Second H&M. We also find some bits in Sainsburys are ok. It's a tricky in-between age for style!

Pinkbananas01 · 04/03/2023 17:15

H & M , New Look & River island are ok for this age & up to early teen yrs.

My dd likes Vertbaudet.

PotKettel · 04/03/2023 17:40

Vinted. You can get some good stuff on there. Give dd a budget and let her put together a wish list.

H&M, or New look is good, the 9/15 section particularly for her age.

jollyhollyday · 04/03/2023 18:02

Went to New Look for my DD10 last week, some good stuff but noticed quite a few tops with holes cut out at the waist and stomach area which I wouldn't have noticed straight away

Primark & Asda also have some stuff suitable for this sort of age
Next online is also worth looking at as they have more styles online in older ages than they do in the shops.
Does Gap still exist?
We also looked in the boys sections and got plain things in JL & Next that way.
The mini Boden pamphlet turned up today and I looked through it longingly!

UNIQLO had the best options for my DD, who's very much non-girly.

musicmum75 · 04/03/2023 18:52

We are in the same situation and my DD loves H&M, New Look, Zara and Mango.

Yes, I've had to let go of any notion of influencing her dress sense! Also, no hair slides, no braids, nothing 'pretty'. Boo!

Thanks everyone, some great ideas

DD recently chopped off her beautiful waist length hair, refuses to ever wear anything but jeans and boots, and only wears very dark colours.

I used to dress her in all the colours of the rainbows and plait her hair. Sad

backawayfatty1 · 05/03/2023 16:00

My DD is now 13 & vinted is life, likes charity shops & h&m. Is against fast fashion from shein. Occasionally goes to Primark but not one close us & prefers the men's section from there 🤣

MrSheepy · 05/03/2023 16:03

Abercrombie & Fitch kids was quite good at that age.

Quornflakegirl · 05/03/2023 16:08

I have 10 year old twin girls. They still wear some Boden as well as Next, Zara, M&S and John Lewis.

myveryownelectrickitten · 05/03/2023 16:09

DD likes selected H&M, the very plain bits in Boden (tops/plain shorts), the plainer bits in Fatface/White Stuff eg. the shorts/leggings and plain tops. I still occasionally find good plain multipack tops in good quality soft cotton in M&S, too.

I find H&M is very variable though. The plain basics are good, but some seasons there will be lots, and then others, it’s all unwearable polyester ugliness. DD doesn’t want to look babyish or girly, but neither does she want mustard flares.

I often find success in buying some secondhand Johnnie b items from eBay - I wish Boden still did that line because it had some really nice plain basics for a teen age group.

Windthebloodybobbinup · 15/01/2024 06:48

Zara is now the go to most of the time

My daughter is the same age and sounds very similar in terms of taste in clothes. I mourn the Boden days! She likes H&M, lipsy from next and river island.
