Do you continue to buy 'normal' clothes whilst pregnant?

Or do you hold off buying anything, except maternity clothes, until you have the baby?

I already have DC and previously had not bought much, except maternity essentials whilst pregnant. This left me with almost no clothes after baby arrived and I had to almost 'start again'. Previous stuff was either dated or I had I sold it during pregnancy. (Im not sure really, i just had almost nothing left).I didn't have any lasting weight gain FWIW.

This time, I feel much more inspired style wise and want to buy some stuff that should last during pregnancy until closer to the end and would mean I'd built up a great wardrobe. I have my eye on some cardigans and shirts/blouses (Sezane and IRIS). Or should I save the cash for after birth...?

My advice is always the same - buy some nice clothes & really make the most of it.
I bought beautiful maternity clothes & felt amazing wearing them!
Congratulations 🎊

I wouldn’t feel confident guessing what size you’ll be after birth tbh. Even if you manage to lose all the weight (which is harder with the second and subsequent babies than with the first) what if you have a Caesarian and are left with a ledge? Even my very slim friend can’t wear the same jeans etc after her c-section because the scar tissue made an odd ledge shape, which is pretty common.

so I’d get comfy clothes for maternity and the post-natal period and then see how it goes.

Why would you sell your normal clothes during pregnancy? Of course you won't have enough after then.

How does stuff date that much in 9 months? Why did you sell your normal clothes? Sorry but I really don’t follow but no I wouldn’t buy anything if it didn’t fit me at the time when I was buying it.

I mean I think I had some kind of pregnancy style crisis and sold loads of clothes while I was pregnant. I'm not sure but I definitely felt like I had nothing much left when I'd had the baby. Or maybe more likely I felt my style and lifestyle changed after the baby was born so everything felt 'wrong'.

I don't like buying too much 'temporary' stuff, that's why I'm wondering about buying some nicer things that will hopefully fit through second trimester and then again after birth. Point taken about the body changes and I definitely wouldn't buy jeans, for example.

Also looking back, it was the beginning of Covid after i gave birth so all my beautiful work wear and smarter stuff was totally defunct! I remember it all felt too smart and there was too much black!

I bought very few maternity clothes but did buy nice things in larger sizes than I would usually wear so I could then continue to wear them as oversized afterwards.

I'm just ending my 1st trimester and have bought a few things that I know will only fit me for a month or two longer. My breasts have grown quite a lot already and I've found any fitted trousers are no longer an option.

I know how you're feeling right now because I feel the same way. I'm the sort of person who adds a few pieces each season. I don't really want to buy much at the moment because I don't want to spend too much on clothes that will fit temporarily. This is my first pregnancy and I'm finding it a bit of a struggle to deal with my body changing and having no clue what to wear. I don't want to buy things that won't fit in a few weeks or after baby comes but can't continue to jam myself into clothes that feel uncomfortable. I teach reception so I'm up and down a lot.

Part of me wants to have a bump so I can style that out and stop looking like I've overeaten and have no clue how to dress... although I might not be too far off, some of my brutally honest reception students took notice of it today and had a few questions (I was planning to wait until Easter to tell them, but might have to sooner if they keep bringing it up).
